Aer Lingus are increasing their transatlantic network with new services to Minneapolis/St. Paul in the United States and Montreal in Canada. It is a return to Montreal which the airline previously served from 1966 to 1979.

At present, the airline flies from Dublin to Boston, Hartford, New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Orlando, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle in the USA as well as Toronto in Canada. Boston and New York are also served from Shannon.

Minneapolis Schedule

Flights from Dublin to Minneapolis begin on 8 July, departing at 14:10 and arriving at 16:55. Return flights depart at 19:00 and land back in Dublin at 08:40 the next day.

Operated by the Boeing 757-200, the schedule is five times per week. This means the services operate on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday as EI89 to the USA and EI88 on the return.

Montreal Schedule

Montreal will start with the new Airbus A321LR on 8 August 2019, departing Dublin at 18:50, arriving at 20:50. Returns will leave at 22:20 and land in Dublin at 09:40 the next day. The flight numbers are EI99 outbound and EI98 return.

The Aer Lingus blog states that the new Airbus A321LR aircraft are enabling these routes to commence. These are scheduled to arrive in 2019 and should allow for even more destinations than just these two to be opened.

Overall Thoughts

The expansion of the Aer Lingus network across the Atlantic continues once more. With a booming Irish economy and connections from the UK and Europe, the strategy being pursued is paying off handsomely.

Operating profit was reported to be €269 million for 2017, providing the highest return on capital for the IAG group. Hopefully the new routes to Minneapolis and Montreal will also contribute to this success.
