It’s always fun when you see a cheap business class flight on Google flights. What is even more remarkable is when you go to the airline’s website and discover it’s actually even cheaper again.
Batik Air is probably not top of anyone’s list of airlines when flying from Hong Kong to Sydney. I imagine most people would look at non-stop flights on airlines such as Qantas or Cathay Pacific. Google flights is handy for presenting lesser known options, and that’s how I found myself checking this out.
Business Class on Batik Air
Having a look at the results from the online search, you can see Batik Air is cheapest. Next cheapest on the list is Philippine Airlines and of course the non-stop option with Cathay Pacific is much more expensive.
A Price Surprise!
Google flights usually has it spot on, so I clicked through to have a look. It didn’t take me to a booking screen, so I put the flight search in again. Imagine my surprise when I saw a discount icon and HKD 8,594 as the price! That translates to €938, over €250 cheaper than the search showed.
Overall Thoughts
I’m sure it’s going to be a fairly basic experience in Batik Air business class. Even so, the 737-800 appears to have decent recliners and the A330-300 down to Sydney will have lie-flat seats, though older ones. For the price though, who cares!

I have flown them short haul. Basic, but got the job done. Nothing memorable good or bad. I did not know they had A330’s. Seems like they are ex-Air Asia. There is a trip report here, not great.
Looks like old style angle flat seat, so I would not bank on getting much sleep, but the extra space would be welcome on an 8hr trip
They are only commencing services to Sydney on 1 July, so I’ll be flying them a couple of weeks later. It’ll be very interesting to see what they have on offer for the long-haul service.
I saw that trip review – I won’t mind angle lie-flat. It’s still better than Premium Economy and that price for their Business Class is lower than the Premium Economy prices of competing airlines, so it was a bit of a no-brainer, even with angled lie-flat. It’ll be fun anyway!
I’ve only flown them on short flights in narrowbody planes but they were fine. I can’t wait to read your review though.
It’ll certainly be interesting – for the price, I couldn’t resist. I’m flying in July, so it’s not long to wait for the trip report really.
