On my last trip back from Australia, I was departing from Adelaide on Malaysia Airlines. Why? Well, it worked out cheaper including Adelaide on the itinerary and so here we are. I flew from Sydney to Adelaide on Qantas and connected in South Australia’s capital.
Since I was on separate tickets, I headed out and claimed my baggage, then headed to check-in. After waiting in line for a bit, I was served and then proceeded through security. Next, I followed the signs to the international section of the terminal, located in the basement.
The International Experience in Adelaide
Down the escalators I went and found people milling about in front of large sliding doors – that were closed. Adelaide has a second set of security screening for outbound international passengers and nobody is permitted through until two hours before departure. What is ridiculous about this is that I had just passed through the modern C3 scanners, the “leave all your stuff in the carry-on” type, after check-in.
Departing from Adelaide
Around when I figured it would be time to board, I left the lounge and headed back upstairs to the gate. I parked myself close to the sign for priority boarding, along with what must have been everyone else.
MH138 – Adelaide to Kuala Lumpur (ADL-KUL)
20 March 2026
Airbus A330-300 – 9M-MTK
Seat: Business Class 5A
Departure: 11:00 Arrival: 15:55
Unusually for me, I didn’t take any pictures whatsoever of the cabin or seat. Mainly because I had flown in to Brisbane on the same aircraft a couple of weeks earlier, and the pictures are there. For those really interested, there are more from the flight to Sydney the year prior.
A Delicious Experience
While waiting on the ground, I sampled both the Hibiscus welcome drink and followed up with a Champagne. Once boarding was complete, we took to the sky.
Opening proceedings from a dining perspective is the Signature Malaysian Satay. It’s always served in the beginning on MH and is always great! The menu then features a single starter, which was Apple Mayonnaise Salad served with roasted chicken and iceberg lettuce.
It’s no different flying from Adelaide than anywhere else – the food is very nice! Once again I couldn’t resist and asked for a second helping of the satay if they had any left over and they did, so happy days.
Dine Anytime
Later on I had the Classic Egg Noodles from the Dine Anytime menu. I like those the most, but you can also get seasonal fresh fruits, a Chicken Tandoori sandwich, a Mozzarella Cheese Panini, Ice Cream or Cheese.
Overall Thoughts
Honestly, the story I posted for the flight on Instagram – and now a Highlight – has more pictures on it. For some reason I did all the pictures there and forgot to duplicate them at the beginning of the flight.
Regardless, I like flying with Malaysia Airlines. They’re just a decent oneworld alliance airline. Comfortable, nice food, friendly crew and nothing to complain about. The new seats on the Airbus A330-900 are superb as well.
