Frequent flyers have taken to the Aer Lingus AerClub in droves, with the Irish carrier announcing their one millionth member. The programme has been open for just two years, so this is quite an achievement.

AerClub uses the Avios currency, which is also used by British Airways, Iberia, Vueling and other selected airlines. Members can earn points by flying plus a range of day to day spend as well.

Frequent Flyers Everywhere

I really enjoyed reading the press release about it as it provided a number of interesting details. When I saw one million frequent flyers, I thought that was quite high, as the Republic of Ireland has a population of just over 4.5 million people.

The mystery was solved when they helpfully broke down the numbers. There are 450,000 Irish members, 267,000 US members and 152,000 members from across Europe and the UK. That’s a decent spread across the airline’s key markets.

Want To Be Jealous?

When you’re randomly the one millionth member of a programme, you are showered with gifts. DJ Maria Healy received Platinum membership, a €500 shopping trip and personal styling session from Kildare Village plus a personal chauffeur from Devine’s Chauffeur Service.

That’s not all! There is dinner at the Merrion Hotel as well. My favourite part of the goodies is the fact she received 240,000 Avios! My balance has never been higher than 160,000 so I would be dancing the streets with 240,000 in my account. Now that is fantastic!

Overall Thoughts

Quite frankly I never expected the AerClub to have one million members, so it’s a pleasant surprise. It is also good of Aer Lingus to mark the occasion by showering the person with some excellent perks that will be very useful indeed.
