It is a real shame that Australia’s Qantas is turning 100 this year. What would have been an amazing year of celebrations has unfortunately been curtailed. Part of the fun are some amazing Qantas uniform dolls that have been put together.

With such a long history, many different uniforms have been produced over the years. Each one is an insight to unique period style and fashion, showing the various trends of the time.

Qantas Uniform Dolls

Long-haul Qantas flight attendant, Sara Armbrecht decided to make the uniforms herself. It is a real labour of love, with a serious time element. The first Qantas uniform dolls took a week to make and practice has reduced that to a few hours.

Period photographs are used to recreate the designs, which is a painstaking task, especially when pictures are not available. Complex patterns, such as that on the Pucci designed 1974-1985 uniform are hand painted.

All 45 dolls are currently on display at the Qantas Outback Founders Museum. This is located in Longreach, a country town in the middle of Queensland. It’s remote, but as you can see from when I went there, it’s well worth a visit.

Overall Thoughts

The Qantas uniform dolls are a real labour of love. The fact they’re on display for people to admire is really excellent, as I think everyone will get a kick out of them.

You can see more images of the dolls and more of the story at the Qantas Outback Founders Museum web site here. When you’re next in Australia, you should pop in, as there’s plenty to see, including a Douglas DC-3, a Lockheed Super Constellation, a Boeing 707 and a Boeing 747.

What do you think of the dolls? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
