Background & Booking
You may have read my last post on the flight from New York (JFK) to Frankfurt (FRA). This was the second leg of the journey. I flew from New York (JFK) to Singapore (SIN) via Frankfurt. Singapore Airlines offers a flight that stops in Frankfurt, picks up some passengers, and the same aircraft continues on to Singapore. My review is a bit delayed, as this was from my May 2025 trip. But, better late than never!
As mentioned in the last post, I booked this flight with Air Canada Aeroplan Points. I reserved my flight about 355 in advance using Air Canada Aeroplan points. The cost was 87,500 Points with under a $100 USD in taxes/fees, but since I was low on points, I opted for the 52,500 point option with $600.

Disembarkation, Lounge & Boarding
Once we got off the plane, there was an agent guiding people back into the terminal area if they were continuing onto Singapore, or directing them to go up the escalator if they were entering Frankfurt. So, within seconds after deplaning, I was in the terminal. As a Singapore Airlines Business Class passenger, you can access either the Lufthansa Business Class Lounge or the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge. A friend of mine had visited both and said that the Maple Leaf Lounge is more tranquil and would be a perfect pit stop for a shower to freshen up. So, I took their advice and glad I did! The Air Canada Lounge (which I reviewed here) was really nice and serene, and the shower suite was just what I needed before getting back on a 12-hour flight. I’ve read online reports that the food is better at the Lufthansa Lounge, but my priority was not food, so the Maple Leaf Lounge worked perfectly.
Boarding was scheduled to be 35 minutes before departure, which was interestingly 5 minutes earlier than on the New York flight. But, we actually didn’t start the boarding process til 30 minutes before departure anyway. I waited in the Business Class line, and after First Class and some high-level elite flyers boarded, it was our turn! We used the first doors to board, so I quickly passed the 1 row of first class and settled in my seat in the Business Class Cabin.
All passengers boarded 15 minutes before our scheduled departure, so I think the flight must not have been too crowded. For this flight, my seat was on the other side of the plane but in the same row since someone had reserved my seat on the first leg.
Singapore Airlines 777 Business Class Seat
The Singapore Airlines Business Class 777-300ER has a 1-2-1 configuration. Business Class was divided into two parts: a smaller forward cabin with 12 seats (Rows 11–14), where I sat, and a larger rear cabin with 36 seats—48 total. Up front, there’s also a single row of First Class (1-2-1). Bulkhead seats (Rows 11 and 15) are popular for extra legroom and a larger footwell, but Row 11 is preferable since Row 15 is near the lavatories. I kept checking for Row 11 with no luck, but Row 12 worked just fine.
I liked the forward cabin, as it was more private and had less foot traffic. I think the seats & cabin look gorgeous!

Next to the IFE screen is a small upper-left cabinet with a cup holder/table below, plus a lighted mirror on the right. To the left is a console with a controller (necessary since the screen isn’t touchscreen), along with a deep cubby for a water bottle and headphones, and a tray table that folds out from the armrest.

By the headrest are a lamp, universal outlet, USB and HDMI ports, and another storage cubby. On the aisle side are the seat controls. The IFE system offered plenty of content, and business class passengers also enjoyed unlimited complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi.
There were no controllable air vents, but it was okay, as the cabin temperature was alright!
Interesting Seating Position…
The seat is angled and slightly offset, so your torso faces forward while your legs extend diagonally, which is great for space and privacy, but it can feel a bit off and mildly awkward when relaxing, so my stomach always felt a bit off.
In lie-flat mode, you’ll need help from the flight attendants (or some effort yourself) to fully flatten it; once set, there’s a mattress pad and an extra pillow waiting (hopefully refreshed each flight). Another quirk is that the seat reclines only partway before you have to fully deploy lie-flat—there’s no true in-between, which can be a bit inconvenient. That said, the overall space, especially around the elbows, is solid, and the bed is comfortable enough for a solid sleep.

The Flight
We ended up leaving the gate 20 minutes past our scheduled departure time. The captain let us know that the flight would be 12 hours in the air.
During boarding, they served welcome drinks of apple juice, orange juice, or a Bellini. This was interesting as there was an option with alcohol, whereas when departing from New York, it was just juices.
Due to the flight from New York to Frankfurt being so short, and the fact that I only got 3 hours of sleep, I was feeling tired and really wanted a quick meal service then to catch some shut eye.
Lunch
Once we reached cruising altitude, they started the lunch meal service.

Lunch started with a Singapore Chicken Satay, which I was so excited to try. Sadly, I found it heavy and not very tasty.

Then the next appetizer was the Carpaccio di Polpo, which had marinated octopus, fine mesclun salad, semi-dried tomatoes, and lemon olive dressing.

Options on board for the main course included:
- Braised Beef Cheek with Red Wine Jus
- Egg Noodles in Pork Soup
- Pan-Fried Zander Fillet with Vegetable Stew
- Kai Yaang
I checked out “Book the Cook”, but nothing stood out to me, so I just pre-ordered the Egg Noodles in Pork Soup (which was one of the onboard options). With “Book the Cook”, you can get access to a larger menu than on board, and you can reserve a meal up to ~24 hours before your flight.

I didn’t love this dish, as it was on the heavy side, but perhaps my jet lag just made me not want to eat too much. I did like the breads provided, though!
For dessert, options included:
- Mango Ice Cream
- Mozart Tart
- Selection of Gourmet Cheese
- Selection of Sliced Fresh Fruits

I enjoyed dessert, and I wish the meal service was a bit shorter, as it ended 2 hours and 30 min after we departed.
After the meal service, I decided to get as much sleep as I could. Thankfully, I was able to, and the seat in lie-flat mode was great.
If you were awake during the flight and wanted a meal, they had light bites and snacks available upon request.

Amenity Kit Request & Lavatories
Amenities are available on request, with kits offered on flights over six hours, along with items like hairbrushes, earplugs, eyeshades, socks, and slippers. The amenity kit featuring Le Labo products (which I love), like face spray, lotion, and lip balm, comes in a case, though it’s oddly not distributed proactively.

Seat-wise, the left side is preferable, with two bathrooms and easier access, while the right side has just one and requires crossing a busy galley. The lavs were upkept nicely, and they had plenty of amenities as well, like toothpaste/toothbrush, razors & combs.

Breakfast
2.5 hours before landing, the lights came on, and I naturally woke up. They came by with a hot towel, and about 30 minutes after the breakfast starter came out.

Options for breakfast included:
- Stuffed Omelet with Feta Cheese and Spinach
- Sweet Crepe Filled with Curd
- Sen Mee Phad Koong Kup Kai
I opted for the 3rd option, which was stir-fried rice vermicelli with shrimps, chicken, and leafy greens.

The dish was not bad, but the chicken was dry. Tray retrieval was a bit slow, but overall, the service throughout the flight was helpful and attentive.
I want to say I had really high hopes for Singapore Airlines, and while it was a solid experience, I think the food fell a bit flat, and I had a much better culinary experience with EVA Air.
We touched down 20 minutes after our scheduled arrival, and got to the gate 10 minutes after.
The Verdict
Overall, I had an enjoyable flight on Singapore Airlines and their business class cabin. I find the Singapore Airlines Business Class 777 seating a bit uncomfortable, and the experience was a tad below my expectations, particularly on the food. On the plus side, the high points include the friendly staff and solid seat in lie-flat mode.
