Background and Booking

To start my Singapore and Thailand journey, I flew from New York (JFK) to Singapore (SIN) via Frankfurt and got to try out the Singapore Airlines 777 Business Class. Singapore Airlines offers a flight that stops in Frankfurt, picks up some passengers, and the same aircraft continues to Singapore. My review is a bit delayed, as this was from my May 2025 trip. But, better late than never, and I was super excited for this flight as it was my first time on Singapore Airlines. This review covers my first New York (JFK) to Frankfurt (FRA) segment.

I reserved my flight about 355 days in advance using Air Canada Aeroplan points. The cost was 87,500 Points with under a $100 USD in taxes/fees, but since I was low on points, I opted for the 52,500 point option with $600.

Flight Details

Singapore Airlines Flight 25
New York (JFK) to Frankfurt (FRA)
Scheduled Duration: 7 hours 45 minutes
Status: On-Time
Seat/Cabin: 12A (Business Class)
Aircraft: Boeing 777-300ER

Lounge

The lowest point of the journey was the lounge access in New York (JFK). I got access to the Air India Maharaja Lounge, with my Singapore Airlines Business Class ticket, which I reviewed here, but thankfully, I was able to access the AMEX Centurion & Chase Sapphire Lounge from my cards.

Great news- as of July 2025, Singapore Airlines business class passengers at JFK Terminal 4 now have access to the Capital One Lounge, which is said to be a major step up from the Air India Maharaja Lounge.

First Impressions

Boarding was orderly, with signs for each boarding zone clearly laid out.

Boarding Lanes at JFK

Once onboard, I found the cabin to feel quite spacious, as they opted not to have overhead bins above the center seats, which helps create a more spacious environment. And I love the cabin colors and how luxurious it feels.

As I settled into my seat, I was offered a welcome beverage of orange, apple, or tomato juice.

The flight attendants all addressed me by last name, and the service was very attentive. Then, the pilots let us know that the flight time would be a short 6 hours and 40 minutes in the air.

Boarding had been completed 5 minutes before our scheduled departure.

Singapore Airlines 777 Business Class Seat

On the Singapore Airlines 777 Business Class I was on, the Business Class cabin was divided into two parts: the forward cabin, where I sat, had 12 seats in a 1-2-1 configuration (Rows 11-14), and a larger rear cabin with 36 seats, for a total of 48 business class seats. In the front of the aircraft, there is 1 row of First Class, in a 1-2-1 configuration. Many like the bulkhead seats (rows 11 and 15) as it provides more legroom, a larger footwell, and a wider sleeping surface. Row 11 would be the best since it’s not next to the lavatories like row 15, but I kept checking the seatmap, and it was never available for me. Oh well, row 12 was perfectly fine.

I liked the forward cabin, as it was more private and had less foot traffic.

Seat Features

Next to the IFE Screen, there is a small cabinet on the top left, as well as a small cup holder/table below that. And a fun feature is the lighted mirror on the right side. The IFE system was quite good, with plenty of selections to keep you busy. Additionally, unlimited complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi was available to business class passengers, which was nice.

To the left is the console with a controller to control the IFE. The controller worked pretty well, which was needed as the screen wasn’t a touchscreen. Below the remote is a deep cubby for storage that houses a water bottle and headphones. Then, there was the tray table that popped out from the armrest.

To the side of the headrest was a lamp and a universal power outlet. There was able USB and HDMI port as well as an open cubby for storage. I was impressed by all the little storage spaces with this seat.

To the right, closer to the aisle, were the controls for the seat.

Seat Woes

The biggest quirk I had was that the seat is angled and slightly offset, so your torso faces one direction while your legs extend diagonally into the footwell. It’s intentionally designed to maximize space and privacy, but it can feel… off. The seat feels slightly misaligned—like my body is gently twisted the whole time while in seated mode. Sitting angled while my feet are off to the side makes it hard to fully relax, and it creates this subtle, almost queasy feeling in my stomach.

In terms of the lie-flat, it’s interesting as you can’t just magically make it lie flat; the flight attendants have to help fold over the seat to be fully lie flat, or you can do it yourself. Once this is activated, there is a small mattress pad waiting, as well as an additional pillow. I hope they clean this pad and pillow after each flight!

Lie-Flat Mode

In lounging mode, you can recline only to a certain point before you’ll need to “activate” the full lie-flat. It’s a little bit quirky/a nuisance as there is no “in-between” and you’re either in a recliner or fully flat. Sometimes, I enjoy being slightly elevated in lie-flat mode.

Though I did feel that the elbow room and space and general was quite good with this seat when compared to other business class products. And, the bed in lie-flat mode was quite comfortable and allowed me to catch some shut-eye.

The Flight & Meal

Forty minutes after leaving the gate, we were still waiting for takeoff, and the pilots informed us that due to lots of traffic at JFK, we still had 10 planes in front of us. We ended up taking off 50 minutes after the scheduled departure.

Shortly after, they came by with warm nuts & a drink. I tried the Midsummer Breeze Mocktail, which is a mixture of apple, orange, and pineapple juices topped with Sprite. Fun and refreshing.

Then the appetizer came out, which was a Hot Smoked Trout and Aerofarms Salad. Along with this came gourmet breads.

Dinner Menu

I did “Book the Cook” and pre-ordered the Prawn Pork Dumpling Noodle Soup, which was tasty. You can get access to a larger menu than on board, and you can reserve a meal up to ~24 hours before your flight.

Though once onboard, there were still many options, which included:

  • Braised Beef Cheek in Red Wine Sauce
  • Cornbread pudding, sauteed spinach, and smoked tomato butter
  • Marinated Seabass Shangdong Noodle Soup
  • Wheat flour noodles in rich broth with seabass and leafy greens
  • Slow Braised Lamb Shank with Red Wine Jus
  • Charred leeks, baby turnips, and barley risotto
  • Braised Chicken with Honey Sa Cha Sauce
  • Seasonal vegetables and steamed rice

  • Haagen Dazs Vanilla Swiss Almond Ice Cream
  • Vanilla ice cream enrobed in rich milk chocolate and roasted almonds
  • Rogue Creamery Gourmet Cheese
  • Served with garnishes
  • Selection of Sliced Fresh Fruits

Ice Cream & Fruit

I had the Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Swiss Almond Ice Cream and fruit, and it was a nice dessert before bed. But I felt like the meal service could have been a bit quicker to help those who wanted to catch some more sleep.

Amenity Kit Request & Lavatories

For amenities, you must request them, and they offer an amenity kit on flights over 6 hours as well as hair brushes, earplugs, eyeshades, socks, and slippers.

I wanted an amenity kit since it had Le Labo toiletries in it (and I love Le Labo!). It came in a case, along with face spray, lotion, and lip balm. Found it a bit odd that these were only available upon request.

Le Labo Amenity Kit

Business class has 3 lavatories between the forward and rear cabins, and they were kept up pretty well during my visits.

Lavatory

The lights turned off about 2 hours into the flight, when we had less than 5 hours to go to Frankfurt. At this point, I decided to catch some sleep. I was able to sleep for a bit, but they woke me up quite early as refreshments were served 1 hour and 45 minutes prior to landing, and this is also when the lights were turned on. So, I probably only got about 3 hours of sleep, unfortunately.

Refreshment (Breakfast) & Landing

I probably should have forgone the refreshment and tried to sleep through the refreshment service, but I had to try the food on my first Singapore Airlines flight!

Refreshment/Breakfast: Supreme Soy Sauce Fried Noodles

The noodles were just okay, a bit too saucy. The other selection you could have taken was a Virginia Ham Sandwich, and they came around with coffee and tea. I expected a bit more for the breakfast/refreshment service.

We touched ground a few minutes before our scheduled arrival, and got to the gate about 10 minutes past our scheduled arrival.

The Verdict

Overall, I had a relatively enjoyable first flight on Singapore Airlines and their business class cabin. I find the Singapore Airlines 777 Business Class seating a bit uncomfortable, and the experience was a tad below my expectations, but perhaps my expectations were too high. On the plus side, the high points include the friendly staff and solid dinner service.
