Review: Temporary Centurion Lounge San Francisco (SFO)

Temporary AMEX Centurion Lounge San Francisco

Background and Location

I was flying out of SFO, and I last visited the former AMEX Centurion Lounge back in 2022. Now, there is a temporary Centurion Lounge due to the Terminal 3 West Modernization Project in the former Alaska Airlines Lounge space until 2027.

The temporary Centurion Lounge is located in Terminal 2, Concourse D, right after the security checkpoint near Compass Books and Napa Farms Market. I was flying out of Terminal 1, so I just had to allocate some extra time to walk back to my gate. Thankfully, SFO is fully connected post-security, so you can access this lounge regardless of where your departure gate is.

Current hours of operation are from 5 am to 11 pm daily.

Access

Cards with access to the lounge include AMEX Platinum, Business Platinum, Centurion, and Delta SkyMiles® Reserve members. You can check the full access rules here. You can be on a flight on the same day, on any carrier. You must arrive within 3 hours of your departing flight or within 5 hours of your confirmed connecting flight.

The Lounge

Overall, this lounge is smaller than its predecessor, clocking in at roughly 9,000 square feet—smaller than the original 15,000+ square foot facility.

But the space feels much more open, so I didn’t really mind it at all. During my early afternoon visit, I joined the digital waitlist on the app, and the wait time was only about 10 minutes. Inside, it was quite packed, but I found a nice seat on the left-side corner with a table and was able to see some United planes.

Seating with Views

On the right side once you enter is the food area, which offered a solid selection of hot & cold dishes. The bar is also here as well. I was able to nibble and essentially have a decent lunch. My favorite dish was the Roasted Chicken Marsala.

There are also showers available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can join via a tablet at reception. Restrooms are also located inside the lounge, which is nice so you don’t have to leave the facility.

The Verdict

Overall, the temporary Centurion Lounge in San Francisco was a decent spot to wait before my flight. Hopefully next time I fly through SFO, the more permanent location debuts.
