Background and Booking
To kick off my Peru Trip, I flew on LATAM Business Class from New York (JFK) to Lima (LIM) aboard the Boeing 767. I booked about 11 months in advance, and reserved it for 50,000 Virgin Points and $55 USD. I was flying with a friend, so it was pretty easy to choose a seat shortly after booking. We both opted for the more private window seats farther from the aisle (odd-numbered seats).
LATAM was formed through the 2012 merger of Chile’s LAN Airlines and Brazil’s TAM Airlines. I was excited to try the newer LATAM Business Class product. Before this flight, I had previously only flown LATAM on one of their former fifth-freedom flights from New York (JFK) to Toronto (YYZ) back in 2016. It was actually on a TAM aircraft, with a totally different business class product. You can read that throwback post here if you’d like.

Check-In and At the Airport
LATAM isn’t part of a major alliance, but has a partnership with Delta. The pro with this is that you get access to the Delta One Lounge at JFK before your flight.
Though, you do still have to check in at the standard LATAM desks and cannot use the Delta One check-in.
I arrived at the airport quite early as the Delta One Lounge is one of my favorites. You can check out my full review from my last visit, as not much has changed, but overall it’s one of the best business class lounges in the United States, and the Brasserie restaurant provides an excellent sit-down restaurant experience.
Boarding and Seat
Boarding was scheduled to start 1 hour and 10 minutes before the departure time, and we started boarding about an hour in advance. We were among the first to board, with Zone 1 being Business Class.
I found the aisles to be quite tight on the 767, but the seats and hard product to be very visually pleasing and nicely designed. LATAM’s Boeing 767 cabin refresh officially debuted in March of 2019.
The LATAM Boeing 767-300ER has 20 business class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, taking up rows 1-5. The business class cabin features the Thompson Aero Vantage XL seat, modified to fit inside the narrower 767 body.
Rows 1,3 and 5 at the window (A and L) are closest to the window and furthest from the aisle, so they are best for privacy/solo travelers. If you’re traveling as a couple, these rows are the best as well, as the middle seats (E and F) are closer together and have a counter/console towards the aisle.
In terms of storage, the side console had decent storage, with many being open-air, and even a small cubby/cabinet that could close. Also, there was a remote to control the IFE system, as well as easy-to-use seat controls. The tray table pushed out from the console and had a half and full setting. A universal power outlet and an older USB-A port are available to charge your devices.
For the in-flight entertainment system, there is a 16″ HD touch screen display, with plenty of movies and shows to keep you entertained. The only missing feature is that there is no Wi-Fi on this flight.
Overall, quite a well-designed seat especially for a 767.
The Flight & First Impressions
Shortly after getting settled in, the flight attendant came by with amenity kits, and I received a green colored one. The amenity kit came with lip balm, body lotion, and a cleaning towelette from Costa Brazil, as well as a toothbrush/toothpaste, earplugs, socks, and an eye mask.
Waiting at my seat were headphones, a bag containing the duvet and pillow, and a mattress pad. A bottle of water was also in the console, as well as slippers.
I was very impressed with the quality of the bedding, and it allowed me to catch some shut-eye.
Before takeoff, I got my welcome drink of a Bellini mocktail, as well as some mixed nuts.
We left the gate a few minutes before our scheduled departure, and took off 15 minutes past our scheduled departure time. The pilots let us know that our journey would be 7 hours and 30 minutes in the air.
Dinner Service & Sleeping
Our flight departed at midnight, and a dinner service was provided. I decided to skip it so I could catch some shut-eye.
For those curious, the food menu consisted of:
Appetizer
- Poached Shrimp with Chipotle Emulsion and Jicama Salad with a Fresh Leaf Salad
Main Courses
- Grilled Chicken with Creamy Chimichurri Sauce, Pumpkin Purée, and Grilled Vegetables
- Grilled Tenderloin with Thyme-Shallot Sauce, Potato Purée, Baby Carrots, and Pickled Mustard Seeds
- Spinach-Ricotta Ravioli with Pomodorina Marinara Sauce, Roasted Shiitake Mushrooms, and Basil
- Mixed Greens with Barley, Blue Cheese, and Cherry Tomatoes
Desserts
- Premium Ice Cream – Assorted Flavors
- Chocolate Ganache with Marble Cake and Pomegranate Seeds
- Fresh Seasonal Fruit
- Special Selection of Cheeses
I skipped the whole meal and slept as much as I could. I slept pretty well and was in deep sleep before I was woken up for breakfast.
Breakfast
I was awakened by the flight attendant with 1 hour and 20 minutes left before landing for breakfast.
The breakfast choices consisted of:
- Vegetable Omelet with Cherry Tomatoes and Parsley Ragout
- Ham and Cheese Selection
- Caramelized Ham and Swiss Cheese Sandwich on a Bagel
- Yogurt with Granola and Jam
All options included: Fresh seasonal fruits, assorted breads, jam and butter.
I opted for the vegetable omelet, and it was honestly one of the best airplane breakfasts I’ve had, to my surprise.
Lavatories
In terms of lavatories, there are two near the front of the aircraft, all on the left side of the plane. They were quite basic, and didn’t have any extra amenities other than soap.
Then before you know it, we were making our descent into Lima, and got to the gate 15 minutes early.
The Verdict
Overall, I had a pleasant LATAM 767 Business Class experience! The experience was much different than my LATAM experience a decade ago. The breakfast was tasty, the bedding was comfortable, and the service was friendly.
