Flying an aircraft into St. Helena island is not something very many people can attest to. It’s a remote place and air services are pretty limited, when compared to what you might expect in other parts of the world. Seeing things from the pilots eye view is even rarer.

In case you missed it, Titan Airways in the UK recently sent their Airbus A318 down there. During the visit, they took the opportunity for some crew training at the facility.

Pilots Eye View Video

After posting a video of the landing and crew training at St. Helena, one of the pilots got in touch to point out this video. It shows the landing from inside the Airbus A318. Since visitors are no longer allowed into cockpits as a matter of rule, seeing something like this can only be experienced vicariously these days.

What is great about this is that you get two views. One from a camera mounted in the front window and another from a third crew member sitting behind the operating crew. It gives a unique perspective on the landing, which is well worth checking out.

Overall Thoughts

Seeing things from the pilots eye view gives a real feel for the airport. The fact St. Helena Airport is located pretty much on the top of a cliff with drops at either end makes it one of the more interesting approaches out there.

Coupled with the unique challenges with the wind in that part of the world, it’s real flying that tests piloting skills. As the pilot said to me, “Amazing place to fly into. It’s unfortunately subject to some extreme winds, but is an aviators dream!”

After seeing the video, what do you think? Is it something you’d like to do? I know St. Helena is high on my list of places to visit, as everyone notes how friendly the people are. Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
