Back at the start of the pandemic, I had flights with Finnair booked and they were the first to get cancelled. It must be déjà vu but it seems to have happened again.

In the last couple of months I’ve made a raft of flight bookings for the end of 2021 through to Easter 2022. Hopefully they will all go ahead, but who can really say?

Déjà Vu Finnair

The Finnair booking actually kicks things off, with my flight scheduled for October. It seems they have decided to pull their daily flights between Dublin and Helsinki. They are now only a few times per week.

My original flight was Friday morning, returning Sunday afternoon, perfect for a weekend in HEL. Two nights in a hotel were booked and everything was set. I was certain all would be well to travel by October.

Today I received the dreaded e-mail headed “Flight Notification” containing the cancellation and the suggested new flight. The new flight leaves on Saturday, arriving just before midnight. It would mean zero time in Helsinki before it was time to go back to the airport to fly home the following day.

As the flight was cancelled by the airline, it appears I am eligible for a refund, which is fine. I think I will cancel and do exactly that really and look to travel in 2022.

Overall Thoughts

It really is déjà vu (well, not really at all, but you know what I’m getting at) and hopefully it doesn’t pass on to the rest of my bookings. These are to London, which should be fine, and then others later to the USA.

I have to give credit to Finnair for at least cancelling well in advance, which is certainly better than the alternative. Hopefully this is the last I see of this and I’m sure the airlines are hoping the same.
