If you have the American Express Platinum Card, this is your reminder to use your Saks Fifth Avenue credit before it goes away.
For years, this has been one of the card’s shopping credits to use. It wasn’t the most exciting benefit, but it was straightforward enough: cardholders could receive up to $100 in statement credits each calendar year for eligible purchases at Saks Fifth Avenue.
The benefit was split into two parts: up to $50 from January through June and another up to $50 from July through December. Enrollment was required and the credit applied to eligible Saks purchases once the charge posted.
That made it useful for smaller purchases like grooming products, kitchen items, accessories, sale items, or gifts. You didn’t need to spend thousands at Saks to extract value from the benefit.
American Express Platinum Card: Saks Credit Will Be Axed
The key date is June 30. That is the last day to use the current Saks Fifth Avenue benefit on the Amex Platinum Card. If you still have your first-half credit available, this is the final month to use it. In practical terms, I wouldn’t wait until the final day. Amex credits can sometimes be quirky, especially if an order does not ship immediately or a charge posts later than expected.
If you want to use the credit, place the order well before June 30 and make sure your card is already enrolled in the benefit.
Welcome Bonus Offer
At the moment, American Express is offering a variable welcome bonus if you sign up for the American Express Platinum Card. Depending on a variety of factors determined by Amex, you can earn up to 175,000 Membership Rewards points from the welcome bonus on the card. If you’re eligible, then Amex will show you your personalized offer and you have the option to accept or reject it.

If you’re eligible for the Business Platinum Card, then the Amex is offering a whopping 300,000 Membership Rewards points as a welcome bonus. Similarly to the consumer card offer, 300,000 points is the upper limit and you’ll see a personalized offer once you enter your details.

No Replacement Announced Yet
The more interesting part is that American Express has not announced a replacement benefit yet. That matters because the Platinum Card has become increasingly dependent on credits to justify its annual fee. Some credits are easy to use. Others require more effort. The Saks benefit sat somewhere in the middle. Was it a reason to keep the card by itself? Absolutely not.
But for many cardholders, it was still part of the annual value calculation. Losing a $100 benefit without a clear replacement makes the card slightly harder to justify unless Amex adds something meaningful in its place.
The Pundit’s Mantra
The Saks credit was never the most exciting Amex Platinum benefit for me, but it was real value if you used it consistently.
With the benefit ending on June 30, this is the last month to use your remaining credit. Don’t assume a replacement is coming immediately and don’t wait until the final day to place an order.
If you have the Amex Platinum Card, check your account, enroll if needed, and use the credit before it disappears.
