Background and Booking
I found a pretty solid deal from Stockholm to Los Angeles on Air France, with a connection in Paris. It came out to 55,000 miles + taxes and fees through Air France’s Flying Blue program and there was availability for 3 passengers. At first, I booked it with just a short overnight layover in Paris, but then I decided to stop by Paris for 2 nights. I had to pay the 70 EUR change fee and found the same amount of miles needed at 55,000 miles + $404 in taxes and fees per passenger in business class. Coupled with the fact that Flying Blue had a 25% transfer bonus from Chase Ultimate Rewards, I thought it was a solid deal. I had a solid experience on the short Stockholm (ARN) to Paris (CDG) flight on the A220, so I was excited to see how this long-haul flight on the Air France 777 Business Class would be.
Flight Details
Air France Flight 24
Paris (CDG) to Los Angeles (LAX)
Scheduled Duration: 11 hours 35 minutes
Status: On Time
Cabin: Business
Aircraft: Boeing 777-300
Seat: 3L (Window)
Lounge Access at Paris (CDG)
At Paris (CDG), I was departing from Terminal 2E, and there are multiple halls with Air France Lounges (K, L, M). This flight was leaving from Hall L, so I had access to the Air France Lounge Paris CDG Terminal 2E Hall L. It was quite large and had a good amount of people inside, but a decent place to grab a quick lunch before the flight. I truly loved the lemon chicken! You can see my full review of the lounge here if you’re interested.
Boarding and the Air France 777 Business Class Cabin
Boarding started 55 minutes before our scheduled departure. The Air France 777 Business Class that I was on was the older product, as only the ones that don’t have the First Class (La Première), are refreshed. Still, my initial impressions were good as that even though the product was older, it still looked like it was in good shape.
There are two business class cabins in this configuration, with the front section having 16 seats, and the back section having 42 seats. The product is the Safran Cirrus II reverse herringbone seats, in a 1-2-1 configuration. Wanting the more boutique atmosphere of the front section, I chose 3L, 4L, and 5L for my parents and me as they were available during the booking process.
The Seat
My seat was 3L, which was the bulkhead right behind the First Class (La Première) Cabin. In front of me was a closet, which wasn’t used much, so I wasn’t disrupted much during this flight.
Waiting at my seat was a pillow, duvet, coat hanger, and a pair of slippers.
The seat has everything you’ll need, along with a universal power plug and USB A port. There is also a cubby to the right for storage, and where the headphones were resting.
AeroLopa states that the seats are 20″ wide and convert to a 6 foot 7 lie-flat bed. I found the seat to be quite comfortable in both lounging mode as well as the lie-flat mode. Since it was an afternoon flight, I did not utilize the lie-flat mode too much, but I did test it out for a short cat nap.
The Flight
Shortly after getting settled, the flight attendants came by with champagne, orange juice, or water as a welcome drink.
I tried the champagne which was actually quite good, and then they came out with the menus, as well as the amenity kit.
The amenity kit came in a cloth bag and contained a toothbrush and a pen, earplugs, a soft sleeping mask, a pair of socks, and a tube of toothpaste. Also, there were two cosmetic products from Clarins: the rejuvenating hand cream and the Hydra-essential moisturizing cooling face gel.
Next, they handed out hot towels, and loved the scent! Boarding was then complete and we left exactly on our scheduled departure time and took off about a little over 10 minutes after our scheduled time.
In-Flight Entertainment, Wi-Fi & Lavatories
While the 16-inch IFE Screen was on the older side, the resolution was still quite crisp. Also, the remote control was quite new, and there were numerous movies, TV shows, music, and games onboard.
Wi-Fi was offered and worked pretty well. There were only short lapses in WiFi service and a longer 5-minute one while flying over Canada. I purchased the Surf Pass which was 22 EUR for the full flight which didn’t seem too bad of a price for me. Also, they have a free messaging package available.
There were 3 lavatories for business class passengers in between the 2 cabins. They were fine and seemed to be cleaned quite often as they were clean throughout my visits. No special amenities were provided, however, but they did have a lot of air fresheners to keep it smelling fresh.
Dining
We had a lunch service shortly after reaching cruising altitude.
The main courses that you could choose from include:
- Shredded veal shank, tomato broth pasta with a grilled cheese topping.
- Poultry fillet, multigrain couscous, and zucchini with lemon.
- Cod, Noilly Prat Sauce, artichoke.
- Green vegetables and herb coulis.
I decided to choose the Cod.
Apologies for not taking a photo of the champagne and wine offerings but I do recall seeing the Pommery Brut Royal as the Champagne offering. Plus, the Chablis 2022 Jean-Marc Brocard and Blanc Fume De Pouilly 2023 as the white wine choices.
They then came by with drinks, cheese crackers, and an appetizer.
Next, they came by with a tablecloth and they brought out the shrimp, a bread basket to pick from, and the salad. All the offerings were decent.
Then, the main dish came out.
I found the cod to be quite decent. It was light and not too salty which I liked.
Then, they brought out the cheese course. I don’t normally like cheese, but the cheeses provided were quite good: Corrtin de Chavignol, Fourme d’Ambert, and Cantal cheeses.
Afterwards, it was time for dessert! They had a coconut lime and mango slice, as well as ice creams and sorbets. I got raspberry & chocolate.
And of course, I had to try a cappuccino which was pretty good!
If you wanted anything throughout the flight, in the galley separating the two business class cabins, there are self-service drinks and snacks provided.
Throughout the flight, the flight attendants were quite attentive and made sure to check in on us. I found the service to be quite good, and much better than I was expecting. I guess US carriers have really dropped my standards for attentive service, and the flight attendants were much more attentive than what I’ve experienced flying transatlantic on fellow SkyTeam partner Delta.
Pre Arrival Meal
One hour and 45 minutes before our scheduled arrival, our pre-arrival “lunch” was served.
You could choose between:
- Roast chicken fillet, tarragon jus, and rissoled potatoes
- Penne pasta with lemon and pistachio, parsley jus, soybeans, and baby spinach
It comes with a Financier cake and Orange and pink grapefruit. A selection from the bread basket also was provided.
I got the chicken, and it was pretty solid. A nice lunch before landing.
After lunch was completed, we were preparing to land. We got hot towels about 45 minutes before landing and we landed about 15 minutes before our scheduled arrival time. We then got to our gate about 5 minutes early.
The Verdict
Overall, I enjoyed my first longhaul business class flight onboard the Air France 777. Even though the cabin is a bit dated now, it is still a solid hard product and the service was solid. I would not hesitate flying Air France again, and hopefully next time I can try their refreshed business class onboard their newly renovated A350’s and other 777’s.

Would take this over any US carrier everyday to/from CDG. A not widely discussed topic is how much lower us carrier staffing is vs european or asian carrier staffing where apples-to-apples comps can be made. US carriers will typically always staff 1 over emergency exit doors on widebody flights. Those other carriers will be 30-40% higher on cabin crew staffing levels. All else being equal (and it’s not e.g. food quality and presentation on US carrier vs comp), this could create the service experience difference. The way I look at it, US carriers need to have much lower prices to… Read more »
Thanks for sharing! I do feel US carriers are a definitely a notch lower as well. Hope they will improve one day!
Looks like a lovely variety of food and good quality. This is business class as we always expected. The newly renovated business class is almost to the old first class standard.
Thanks for reading! It was a great intro to Air France and I gotta try the new product soon!
Ty,
I found the review of your Air France flights to be informative. Having flown a number of times this past summer on American Airlines, Business Class, I was wondering how Air France Business class service has been these days. Your experience indicates Air France still provides an excellent service with a level of service superior to most US carriers. By the way, was the pre departure champagne served in plastic or glass?
I fly AF business between SFO/CDG several times a year. The champagne is served in glass.
Sue is right! The champagne is served in glass. Thanks for reading!
