Qatar Airways status match offered for six airlines – be quick, frequent flyers!

The good news is that you can get a Qatar Airways status match right now. The bad news is that it only applies to those holding frequent flyer cards with six airlines.

Frequent flyer types will need to be quick as the promotion ends very soon. You have until 11:59pm on Wednesday 20 May 2020 Doha time (10:59pm in Europe, 09:59pm in Ireland/UK, 4:59pm in New York and 6:59am on Thursday 21 May 2020 in Sydney) to do this.

Status Match Details

You need to join the Qatar Airways Privilege Club. Once you have an account, you then need to send two months statements from your current frequent flyer programme and a photo of your current frequent flyer card to statusmatch@qmiles.com – not forgetting to include your new Privilege Club membership number as well.

People who are successful with their application will receive their equivalent status on the Qatar Airways Privilege Club for 12 months. During that time, you only need to earn half the usual Qpoints to renew (300, 150 or 75 for Platinum, Gold and Silver respectively). This is probably a good thing with the reduced flying going on at the moment.

Are You Eligible For The Qatar Airways Status Match?

As I mentioned before, only six airlines frequent flyers are eligible for a Qatar Airways status match. These are Emirates, Etihad, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Turkish Airlines, and Virgin Australia.

This is probably excellent news for those in the South African Airways and Virgin Australia programmes as both these airlines are currently in financial difficulty.

Full details on the offer are available at the Qatar Airways web site here. Note: if it redirects you to the Maldives Qatar Airways web site, copy and paste the link into a browser manually and it should come up – that happened to me initially!

Overall Thoughts

It is not often that I see a status match for a oneworld alliance airline. Or perhaps I just don’t notice them so much as I am already in that alliance’s ecosystem. Either way, I think the Qatar Airways status match is a good deal. You will need to get cracking though, as there are only 48 hours or so left on the promotion at the time of writing.

Are you planning to take advantage of this offer? Have you ever had a status match before? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
