Norfolk Island is located in the Pacific Ocean, 1,680km from Sydney, Australia and 1,090km from Auckland, New Zealand. There are almost 2,200 permanent residents on the island, which has a land area of 35 square kilometres.

I visited in July 2022 and found the place to be very, very pretty. With rolling hills and lush landscapes, it is certainly a pleasant place to go.

There had been a long period of drought a while ago, but since then the rains are back. We were told we were lucky as it makes the island look very pretty.

Quite frankly, it is serene, gorgeous and well worth checking out. Since the place is not particularly large, you can see it all relatively quickly.

Overall Thoughts

You may not have heard of Norfolk Island, but people in Australia and New Zealand certainly have. With limited flights each day, there are not a lot of tourists around at once, which makes it a bit of an open secret for an escape.

The island has no air conditioning (unless you require it for health reasons) which means in summer it will likely be quite hot. We visited in the middle of winter and it was still a pleasantly warm 21 degrees.

Another thing to note is that prices for certain things do not attract duty. Cigarettes are particularly cheap, and other items such as sportwear and shoes are also nicely priced.

Have you been to Norfolk Island before? Perhaps you went on a honeymoon or on an organised tour? What did you think of it? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
