One of the interesting things about trying new airlines are the little things that differentiate them from others. On Philippine Airlines, it’s their theme song.
I had no idea about this until I flew with the airline from Manila to Sydney recently. Once we landed, the song began playing over the speakers, which was certainly unexpected.
Philippine Airlines Song
Lots of airlines have certain boarding music, or a tune that they use, such as the British Airways Flower Duet. While lovely, it can get old when you hear it 300 times in a row during a long hold for the call centre!
The Philippine Airlines song is called “Fly With Heart”. It’s a bouncy little tune that really grabs your attention at the end of an eight hour flight. All of it fits in to the Philippine Airlines brand, which is to be “The heart of the Filipino”.
Overall Thoughts
While it’s not a song I would go out and buy, it certainly feels like something a marketing team would put together for an airline. After travelling for the guts of 36 hours, I can’t say the jaunty tune was welcome to this tired traveller… particularly when it then repeated!
Either way, it’s certainly catchy and screams Philippine Airlines, so I guess it does the job it’s designed to do. National carriers do like to pull on the heart strings. Qantas in Australia do the same with “I Still Call Australia Home” – which wasn’t written for the airline, but has been adopted as its main music.
