Ireland West Airport Knock is one of the many commercial airports dotted around Ireland and is located in County Mayo. They are doing their charity runway fun run this year, which promises to be an interesting experience.

The only other airports I’ve heard of that does this are Budapest Airport in Hungary and Toronto Pearson in Canada. It’s something I think would be an interesting experience and hey, it’s for charity, so why not?

Knock’s Runway Fun Run

Everyone refers to the airport as Knock and its code is even NOC, so that’s what I’ll call it from here on out. The runway fun run is taking place on 10 September 2022 at 5pm and is actually the fifth one they have done.

This year, the lucky Charities are The Childhood Cancer Foundation, The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust and The Sensational Kids Project. All worthy organisations indeed.

Anyone attending will be put into a draw for Ryanair tickets to Palma Majorca, and everyone receives a free commemorative t-shirt. There is also the option for people to do a virtual run, which is cute.

Adult tickets for the runway run are €20 apiece, with kids 16 or under charged a fiver. A family of two adults and two children can avail of a discounted €40 ticket, which is basically getting the children in free.

Overall Thoughts

I think runway fun runs are a brilliant idea and I might just have to get myself out to Knock to give it a whirl. Perhaps I could fly in from London Gatwick on Aer Lingus just to use the airport.

September should give a chance for decent enough weather, but you never know out West. Still, I think it would be fun even if it was raining. Those wanting to get tickets can get them from Eventmaster here.
