Cathay Pacific turns 80 this year and the airline is going all out to celebrate. Just about anywhere I look on Social Media there’s something engaging popping up.
The Hong Kong based carrier is known as one of the highest quality airlines in the world. I’ve flown with them several times and have generally found them to be faultless.
Cathay Pacific Turns 80
There are two videos which I really enjoyed watching. The first is a short film called, “The Journey Home”. It runs for 10 minutes and is a lovely little presentation about a mother and her daughter.
Next up, I was casually reading the BBC News website (as you do) and spotted an advertisement link. It’s another video called “80 Years Together” by BBC StoryWorks and runs for six minutes.
I liked how there is a focus on the staff and the airline’s story. One highlight was seeing one of the pilots say his favourite aircraft to fly was the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar.
The Instagram game is strong too!
Over on Instagram, I came across this cool story, showing a “Then and Now” of the cabin crew uniforms. First, you get to see what the styles were back in the day, and then you see someone today wearing the same outfit.
I thought it was just a cute thing, until I saw the first comment which said, “I saw three retro uniforms on my Cathay Pacific flights and the ladies looked absolutely gorgeous!”. To have some current crew working flights in the vintage outfits is unbelievably cool!
Overall Thoughts
So Cathay Pacific turns 80 this year and they’ve pulled out all the stops to celebrate. While I get it’s all a marketing bonanza, I’m personally lapping it all up.
The oneworld alliance carrier even has a dedicated site for their birthday, with even more goodies. I’m flying Cathay Pacific in July and again in December/January and I’m really looking forward to it as it’s been far too long!
What do you think of airlines celebrating their anniversaries? Any thoughts on Cathay’s videos and so on? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
