HIGHLIGHTS: Hampton Inn & Suites Irvine-Orange County Airport
This hotel, close to John Wayne Airport and Irvine, was surprisingly nice. While I was unable to get my Hilton Diamond onto my lady’s reservation, the nice, remodeled décor of the lobby and rooms was pleasant. I enjoyed the Hilton Diamond parking, although the $15 daily charge is ridiculous. Breakfast is included in your rate, however I heard it was not that great. At ~40,000 points for the two nights it was an okay deal.
LOBBY & CHECK-IN
Directly at the entrance, the associates were helpful but apologetic that I could not apply my Diamond status to her reservation and get benefits. Elevators are quite far – all the way down a long remodeled hallway.
ROOM
Basic King room with the view of a parking lot. Sliding bathroom door just like the SLS Las Vegas. Room is remodeled and nice, much better than I expected for a Hampton Inn. Bathroom is also quite nice, with a large, spacious shower. Room comes with a microwave and fridge, which is a nice touch.
HOTEL SPACE / AMBIANCE
It’s close to an airport, college (UC Irvine), and business district in downtown Irvine and Orange. Its reasonable price makes for an attractive option.
FOOD & DRINK
No welcome amenity, although they gave two bottles of water when I asked at checkout. I heard breakfast was nothing too special, basic continental with hot eggs/sausages.
FITNESS
I resolved to check out the gym and failed to do so, but it’s quite nice for the property.
MISCELLANEOUS
Internet is complimentary through Hilton Honors, being a guest, or having Gold+ status. We did enjoy playing Overcooked on Steam through an HDMI cable that attaches to the large flat screen tv in the hotel room. Parking is $15 a day, and they have shuttles that take you from this Hampton Inn only to the nearby John Wayne airport. I enjoyed parking right next to the entrance under a sign – reserved for Hilton Diamond guests. I need to take full advantage of my American Express Aspire card, otherwise what’s the point?
