Let’s face it, the food offering in an airport lounge is an important part of the experience. What separates an average facility from a good one is whether they provide hot food or not.
The good people at Dublin Airport have decided to up their game and improve the current offering. At the moment, they provide things like sandwiches and cakes but this is about to change.
Hot Food Comes to Dublin
The airport recently issued a press release about five new food outlets coming to the terminals. That was the main news, but buried inside was the following paragraph.
“Exciting improvements are also being made to Dublin Airport’s lounges. In partnership with catering partner KSG, the lounges at Dublin Airport will shortly start offering hot food options in the T1 Lounge, The East Lounge, and the US pre-clearance lounge in Terminal 2, 51st & Green. Passengers will be able to enjoy a diverse range of high-quality locally sourced produce while they relax ahead of their flight.”
There is already hot food available in the 51st & Green Lounge (and presumably the East Lounge), but this will be the first time this is available in the T1 and T2 lounges. Great news all round really!
Overall Thoughts
Improvements are always welcome and this is a really good one. As I really like to eat, I’m always interested when they are making additions to the dining offering.
Hot food will be great to have in the lounge before flight. I wonder if there was airline pressure to do this, as pretty much all the airlines serving Dublin use the DAA lounges, bar Aer Lingus. Speaking of which, I wonder if this will make them do something similar for their lounge in T2. Time will tell!

Well it’s about damn time. The lounges in Dublin are really sub-par. I actually can’t believe that our national airline serves little plastic cheap European “cheese” and cream crackers in the Aer Lingus lounge. We have such incredible produce in this country and they ignore it completely to serve the cheapest rubbish possible, with soup being the only hot option available. I really hope they follow DUB’s lead on this for the EI lounge in T2.
To be fair, the soup is usually really good! I hear you though – I imagine whoever has the contract to cater the lounge supplies whatever brands they work with. It’s a good point though, showcasing the local products would be better.
