Recently I had reason to travel to Manchester to see The B-52’s in concert and I wanted to travel as cheaply as possible. In this instance, I picked up a room at the Premier Inn Hotel Manchester Deansgate Locks for just £49 for one night.

Premier Inn’s have a wonderful consistency about them. Whether you’re staying at the one in London Hammersmith or one of the others scattered around the United Kingdom, they all feel the same.

My main reason for selecting the location is that it was a short walk from the Deansgate Metrolink tram station. This meant that I would be able to get a tram from the airport and also another tram easily the next morning as I had an 8am flight. Happily, the walk is just 7 minutes.

On arrival, I had to wait a little bit for check-in as there were two customers ahead of me. One was asking all about the hotel and requesting extra sugar and tea for his in room kettle, while another needed an ironing board and iron. Once they were handled I was checked in by a friendly staff member and issued my room key.

Happily the Premier Inn Deansgate Locks is no different from any other. There is a kettle with tea, coffee, sugar and milk, a large comfortable bed, a place to hang your clothes, a flat-screen TV and air conditioning. All in all, it was exactly what I expected.

There is an on site bar and restaurant, but due to my limited visit time, I didn’t check them out. After the concert, I was a little peckish and happily there are vending machines which take credit cards near the lobby so I was able to get a soft drink and some crisps quite easily.

How About The Bathroom?

For some reason I found the dark purple grout between the tiles to be very interesting. Not only did it give things a Premier Inn vibe, I thought it was an excellent choice to keep the place looking clean.

As is becoming more common, the soap dispenser was attached to the wall. This reduces the amount of small plastic bottles that are thrown away each year.

Of course, there is also a toilet, basin and mirror. Several clean white towels and mats are provided, and I found everything spic and span as I would have expected.

Overall Thoughts

A few years ago, the advertising campaign for the chain had the tag line, “Everything’s premier but the price!” and generally it’s true. The beds are comfortable, the service is usually quite friendly and most importantly, the hotels are always clean.

With only a duvet to cover me, I did find sleeping a little warmer than I am used to, however, the bed was comfortable for a nights sleep. Pleasingly the Premier Inn Deansgate Locks in Manchester does what it says on the tin. A good nights sleep in a reasonably priced, clean, comfortable room.
