I recently flew China Southern Airlines economy class from Vancouver to Guangzhou when I booked an award ticket. I could have easily flown out of Los Angeles (LAX) which China Southern operates an A380 but I didn’t have enough Delta SkyMiles in my account to make that purchase. This was my first time flying with China Southern and I came in with no expectations as I heard their product is a hit or miss at times from other travel bloggers.

China Southern Airlines Economy Class Seats
The Boeing 777-300ER was in a 3-3-3 seat configuration. Due to my late booking, most seats were already taken in the first section of economy class. I ended up being towards the rear of the plane in seat 54G.
Two power outlets are located on the bottom of the seats to be shared among the three passengers. I would make sure to plug in your device and claim your outlet before your neighbor does.
The entertainment system was decent on China Southern. The screen was very responsive and had many of the latest released movies.
Food
Due to the flight taking off at 12:50 pm I was served lunch shortly after take off. Two hours prior to landing, the flight attendants started to serve us lunch before touching down in Guangzhou. The quality of the food was on par with other meals I’ve had in the economy en route to Asia from the west coast. The rice was evenly cooked and the meat wasn’t too salty.
Travel Tip: China Southern doesn’t offer any type of amenity kit. I would suggest bringing your own disposable toothbrush and eye mask.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, I had a pleasant experience flying economy with China Southern Airlines. My minor complains were that they didn’t offer any amenity kits in economy class, nor did they have anything in the bathroom such as facial mist or lotion. Besides that, the flight attendants were friendly and attentive to passengers in economy class. The onboard entertainment had a nice selection to choose from for the long haul flight. If I saw a cheap flight from the west coast to China on China Southern Airlines, I would definitely jump on it.
