As of writing this post, the Apple Maps iPhone iOS app remains deactivated as related to directions to the Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) in Alaska, as my first screenshot shows.

The mapping function was reportedly directing drivers across the airport’s main runway if the driver was south of Taxiway B at FAI (see screenshot). Reports say at least two inattentive drivers actually pulled a Michael Scott (per NBC’s The Office), following their iPhone’s directions across active runways over the last few weeks, despite a gate and sign giving warning. Airport authorities have added that further barriers have been added just in case the malfunction remains or reappears.

The TAKEAWAY
Umm, use common sense. Oh, and use Google Maps! 🙂
