Once upon a time, airlines would provide a large model aircraft to a travel agency as a promotional tool. These could sit in the window of the store, or they would be a feature once inside.
Since bookings have predominantly moved online, these models are mostly relics of the past. There are currently three of these vintage items on sale at an auction house in the UK.
Travel agency models for sale!
Pushkin’s have been around since 2013 and focus on items to elevate interiors. The model BA aircraft would certainly be a statement piece in the home of an airline employee or someone into aviation.
At the moment, they have three British Airways models on sale. Two are from the late 1980s/early 1990s “Landor” era of British Airways, while one is from the “Utopia” era that arrived in the late 1990s.
Concorde is perhaps the most iconic airliner ever built… and you’ll pay a pretty penny if you want one. This is priced at an eye watering £9,795.00! Let’s hope you’re rich if you want that in your home.
Overall Thoughts
Let’s face it, these travel agency models are super cool. If it were a vintage BOAC Vickers VC-10 model, I’d say I’d probably do my best to get my hands on it, particularly if it was one cutaway to view the interior.
I’d say the market for these would be retired Pilots, as I imagine they’re the only ones with that kind of cash to burn. They’d make for a great conversation starter in the home at any rate.
