Review: The relaxing Plaza Premium Gate 35 First Lounge Hong Kong

The Flight Detective

The Plaza Premium Gate 35 First lounge in Hong Kong is one of several lounges operated by the company at this airport. The others are located at Gate 1 and Gate 60, with the former also offering a premium section.

I was visiting ahead of a Philippine Airlines flight to Manila, which is how I gained access. You can also pay in, which is currently priced online at HKD 980.00 (€107, US$125, £91.00 or AU$175.00).

Plaza Premium Gate 35 First Lounge

Just like Cathay Pacific’s The Pier First Class lounge, you access the lounge by going downstairs. As it’s both a standard Plaza Premium lounge and a First lounge, I was escorted through the main lounge to the premium section down the back. It’s not a huge area, but it is flooded with natural light and there are aircraft right outside.

You can elect to seat at the dining tables, facing the window, or in other comfortable seats. I decided to face the outside action, as it’s always nice to see what is going on. Happily the air conditioning was working well, as it’s usually pretty warm in Hong Kong.

Elegant Bathrooms

The bathroom facilities were clean and fresh with a nice elegant design. For some reason, it’s important to me to find a nicely designed area, as old, worn and unkempt facilities ruin the experience.

I particularly liked the choice of colours here. The dark green wall tiles are really nice… not so nice that I’d hang out here, but certainly perfect for what it is!

Food and Drink

Once I was seated, I was offered a welcome drink, which was a glass of bubbles. From there, I had a look at the menu and decided I’d like to try their Nasi Lemak. My first experience of this dish was flying Malaysia Airlines from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney and I wanted to compare.

The dish arrived soon enough and I tucked in. While it was perfectly acceptable, it was not nearly as good as when I had it for breakfast in business class on MH. Even so, no complaints at all, really.

Overall Thoughts

The Plaza Premium Gate 35 First lounge in HKG is quite okay. It was nice to experience it, and as it turns out it was also the closest lounge to my gate. According to the fact sheet, you can get a shower here, and they also offer 10 minute massages for eligible customers. I wish I had asked about that when I was there!

All of that being said, the better – but also busier – Plaza Premium First lounge is the one near Gate 1. That one I accessed on my return journey and there is far more on offer when it comes to the food experience.

What do you think of the Plaza Premium Gate 35 First lounge in Hong Kong? Have you been to any of these at the airport? Which is best? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
