American Express may be testing a higher welcome bonus on the Amex Platinum Card.

The current Amex Platinum headline offer is already strong: applicants can find out if they are eligible for as high as 175,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $12,000 in the first six months. That is not a fixed 175,000-point offer for everyone. American Express now uses variable “as high as” language, which means you may see the headline number upfront but only learn your actual approved offer amount later in the application flow.

That distinction matters because the Platinum Card is not a cheap card. If you are applying mainly for the welcome bonus, you want certainty. Unfortunately, Amex’s current offer language gives applicants a ceiling, not a guaranteed number.

What Offers Are Being Reported?

According to reports on Reddit, there is a rumor based on Amex qwww test links that increased offers may be coming on several American Express cards. The most interesting one is the consumer Amex Platinum Card, which is reportedly showing as high as 185,000 Membership Rewards points after $11,000 in spend. That would be 10,000 points higher than the current headline offer, with a lower spending requirement than the current $12,000 threshold.

The same report also lists a potential Amex Gold offer of as high as 105,000 points after $12,000 in spend, along with elevated Delta card offers. The reported Delta Gold offer is 80,000 miles plus a $250 statement credit after $3,000 in spend over six months. The Delta Platinum offer is reportedly 90,000 miles plus a $300 statement credit after $4,000 in spend, while the Delta Reserve offer is reportedly two round-trip Delta Comfort flight certificates plus 50,000 bonus miles after $10,000 in spend.

These are not confirmed public offers yet. They appear to be test-link data points, and that means cardholders should treat them as directional rather than guaranteed.

In the credit card world, test links often show up before public offers go live. That does not mean every test offer launches exactly as shown, but it does mean Amex may be preparing something.

If you were planning to apply for the Amex Platinum today, this could be a reason to pause for a bit. A potential 185,000-point offer with an $11,000 spending requirement is objectively better than the current as-high-as 175,000-point offer with a $12,000 spending requirement.

The “As High As” Problem

The frustrating part is Amex’s variable offer language. US Credit Card Guide has documented how Amex increasingly uses “as high as” welcome bonus wording. The basic idea is that after you submit your application, but before accepting the card, Amex tells you the exact bonus amount you are eligible for. That amount may be lower than the headline figure.

From a consumer standpoint, I do not love this structure. A clean 185,000-point welcome bonus would be fantastic. An “as high as 185,000” offer is still interesting, but it is less satisfying because you may not actually get the full amount.

That creates a weird dynamic. The offer looks huge in headlines, but the real offer depends on what Amex shows you individually.

The Pundit’s Mantra

I would not call this confirmed yet, but I would definitely pay attention. If the Amex Platinum moves from “as high as 175,000” to “as high as 185,000,” that is a nice improvement, especially if the spending requirement drops from $12,000 to $11,000. The reported Delta offers also look strong, particularly for people who value Delta miles and statement credits.

“As high as” sounds impressive, but it creates uncertainty. For a premium card with a high annual fee, applicants deserve to know the real number before getting excited.

What do you think about these new rumored offers? Would you apply for them right away? If yes, which card would you go for? Tell us in the comments section.
