Doctor of Credit has flagged two interesting American Express Marriott offers: the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Card with 150,000 points plus a $250 credit after $6,000 in spend within the first six months, and the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy Card with 125,000 points plus a $150 credit after $5,000 in spend within the first six months. Both offers are especially interesting because they are being reported as acting like No Lifetime Language, or NLL, offers.
The bonuses themselves are good, but the reason people pay attention to Amex NLL offers is simple: they can sometimes allow cardholders to earn a welcome bonus again even if they have previously had the same card. In the Amex world, where welcome bonuses are often restricted to once per lifetime, that can be a very big deal.
What Are Amex NLL Offers?
NLL stands for No Lifetime Language. Normally, American Express card offers include language saying you may not be eligible for the welcome offer if you have or have had the card before. That is what people casually refer to as Amex’s “once per lifetime” rule.
An NLL offer is different because that specific lifetime restriction is not present, or in some cases, the offer appears to behave as though it is not being enforced. That can open the door for people who previously had a card to apply again and potentially receive another welcome bonus.
The Two Offers
The first offer is on the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card, with a bonus of 150,000 Marriott Bonvoy points plus a $250 credit after spending $6,000 in the first six months. The card carries a $650 annual fee and includes benefits such as monthly dining credits, an annual free night award valid at properties costing up to 85,000 points, Platinum Elite status, and 25 elite night credits.
The second offer is on the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy American Express Card, with a bonus of 125,000 Marriott Bonvoy points plus a $150 credit after spending $5,000 in the first six months. The card has a $250 annual fee, earns 6x points at Marriott properties, 4x points on the first $15,000 in combined grocery and dining purchases each year, and offers Gold Elite status and 15 elite night credits.
Between the two, the Brilliant is clearly the more premium card. The Bevy is cheaper, but also less compelling unless the bonus, credit, and elite night credits fit your Marriott strategy.
NLL Does Not Mean Automatic Approval
An NLL offer does not mean Amex will automatically approve your application. It also does not mean Amex is guaranteed to award the bonus under every circumstance.
All it really means is that the offer may allow you to apply and potentially earn the welcome bonus even if you have received a bonus on that same card before. But Amex still needs to approve your application, and you still need to avoid the dreaded pop-up saying you are not eligible for the welcome offer.
It may help with the lifetime-bonus issue, but it does not override every other Amex rule, risk model, or eligibility restriction. These Marriott cards also have complicated cross-issuer restrictions involving Chase Marriott cards, so your recent Marriott card history can still matter.
Why These Offers Are Tempting
If you are eligible, these offers can be very attractive. A 150,000-point Brilliant bonus plus a $250 credit can offset a meaningful chunk of the first-year annual fee. The Brilliant’s annual free night certificate, Platinum status, and elite nights can also make sense for someone who actually stays with Marriott.
The Bevy offer is less exciting from a benefits standpoint, but 125,000 points plus a $150 credit is still useful if you have a Marriott redemption in mind. Marriott points are useful, but they are also variable in value. Do not apply just because the number looks big. Apply because you know how the points and benefits fit into your travel strategy.
The Pundit’s Mantra
I like NLL offers, but I do not like blindly chasing them. These Amex Marriott offers are good if you can get them. The possibility of earning a bonus again on a card you previously held is always worth paying attention to, especially with American Express.
That said, cardholders should tread carefully before applying through links posted online. Amex is very alert to behavior it considers abusive. If the issuer sees something it does not like, it can deny a bonus, claw back points, or in more serious cases, shut down accounts. That does not mean normal applicants should panic, but it does mean you should avoid anything that feels questionable.
My advice is simple: read the terms, check your eligibility, understand the Marriott restrictions, and do not assume an NLL-style link guarantees anything.
