As Covid19 toys with the markets, we’ve seen many banks offer generous terms to customers. Many are offering late fee waivers, while some are pausing interest charges for a while. Similarly, Amex has been making some really customer friendly moves. On the Amex website, I found something that was really proactive on Amex’s part. Amex is offering customers additional time to meet minimum spend requirements for welcome bonuses.
Minimum Spend Requirements
Up until a month ago, we were seeing banks amp up the minimum spend requirements for many of their credit cards. The market was chugging along well and the banks wanted us to spend more in order to earn those bonuses. However, things are very different now and it’s good to see Amex offer generous terms to their customers. Here’s the notice that Amex is displaying on their website.
Due to the impact of COVID-19,
for eligible Card accounts approved from December 1, 2019 through May 31, 2020 for which you are eligible for a welcome offer, the period to make eligible purchases to earn your welcome bonus will be extended for an additional 3 months. Eligible Cards are U.S. Consumer and Business Cards issued by American Express National Bank to a Basic Card Member.
The Pundit’s Mantra
It’s amazing that Amex is applying this rule to current and future credit card applications. For example, even if you apply for an Amex Card today, you can get an additional 3 months added in order to meet your minimum spend requirements.
This sure tempts me to sign up for an Amex card, given how much extra time they’re offering.
