Aer Lingus AerSpace is a premium product now available on selected European routes operated by the Irish airline. On regular Airbus A320 services, this travel class occupies row one, meaning there are four seats for sale on each flight.

The question is, just what is AerSpace? Is it European business class? Perhaps it is some kind of premium economy? Well, have a look at it in action below and make your own decision.

Aer Lingus AerSpace

Flights between Dublin and London City are operated on behalf of Aer Lingus by CityJet and on board the Avro RJ, a curtain divides the AerSpace seats from the rest of the cabin. There is no curtain to divide the cabin on the Airbus A320 fleet and the seat beside you is always kept free.

On board, passengers can choose anything from the on board menu. This means the delicious hot breakfast on flights before 11am, any drinks, snacks and even alcoholic beverages are available for your consumption. While the picture above shows a tired cabin at the tail end of a busy summer, row one is actually pretty good and you can see how much space you get here. In addition, passengers get lounge access, checked luggage, priority boarding, fast-track security, reserved overhead bins and automatic standby on earlier flights.

Overall Thoughts

Aer Lingus AerSpace is described by the airline as a “premium short-haul travel experience”. It is not business class, as the catering is the same as economy class. Plus, there is no curtain or hot towel service. Usually specific catering and a curtain are hallmarks of European business class cabins.

Despite that, it is sold as J class on tickets, and passengers flying transatlantic business class and connecting over Dublin to other European destinations will be put into AerSpace automatically. This will mean a more seamless experience for these people, rather than being “downgraded” on their European leg.

What do you think of AerSpace? Is it business class or is it premium economy? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
