The Amex Business Platinum Card now has a 100,000-point offer, as reported by Doctor of Credit (H/T). PYCR recently reported about the Charles Schwab personal version having a targeted offer for the same amount of points. However, this offer is NOT targeted! The Card Match tool is where you would normally find targeted 100,000-Point offers for the Business Platinum Card. But American Express is offering six figures for all new cardholders until September 25, 2019.

You can earn 100,000 Membership Rewards (MR) Points after spending a total of $25,000 within the first three months. The bonus comes in two parts. The first consists of earning 50,000 MR points after spending $10,000 within the first three months. You will earn 50,000 more points by spending another $15,000 within the first three months.

A Quick Overview of the Business Platinum Card

While the American Express Business Platinum Card is a transferrable points card, it is not a very good one for most expenses. The Business Platinum Card earns 5x points on airfare booked through amextravel.com. All purchases under $5,000 earn just one point per dollar. But purchases of at least $5,000 earn a decent 1.5x points per dollar.

The Business Platinum Card is American Express’ flagship card from its business card lineup. This gives it membership in the Membership Rewards program, which gives cardholders access to over 20 hotel and airline partners. You will have a plethora of redemption options with the Business Platinum Card. But the best way to redeem MR points is to transfer them to airline partners.

The Business Platinum Card comes with a slew of perks that are unrivaled in the points and miles world. These perks are included with the all personal versions of the Platinum Card as well. Just be sure you can realize at least $600 in value each year before applying.

Analysis

Any American Express offer worth 100,000 MR points is worth going for if you can hit the minimum spend threshold. However, $25,000 in three months is a lot of money for most individuals and small businesses. The extreme minimum spend threshold could be dissuading for many people. The Charles Schwab Platinum offer is the better deal for most consumers as long as they meet the criteria. But businesses with at least $25,000 in quarterly expenses should go for this bonus.

All flavors of the Platinum Card have been devalued in 2019, especially in the way of perks. However, that does not mean it’s not valuable to the right person. Heavy travelers, especially those who frequent airport lounges, could get thousands of dollars in value from the Platinum Card. American Express would not offer the card in the first place if it was not right for anyone.

Final Draw

The Amex Business Platinum Card is a great card for small and medium businesses that have large travel budgets. It’s a great option for the right consumer, but not for all. American Express’ six-figure offer is enticing because it’s very rare that it is not targeted.

I am assuming that a lot of people cancelled their Business Platinum Cards because of the devaluation of benefits and limited earning structure. This offer is a great way for them to get more business and remain competitive. However, I think that American Express should start by revamping the Business Platinum Card’s earning structure. They should make it more relevant to business owners and possibly complement their Gold Card’s structure.

This offer ends on September 25, 2019, so act soon if you want to take advantage of it.
