Remember physical frequent flyer cards and bag tags? Once upon a time, even brand new members of an airline’s frequent flyer programme received a welcome letter and their card in the post.
These days they are much harder to come by. Airlines usually don’t send anything to new members apart from an e-mail. Others, like British Airways, will only send a welcome pack to top tier frequent flyers and then only on request.
Aegean’s Physical Frequent Flyer Pack
Recently I flipped through Silver and Gold with Aegean Airlines. Both levels offer the option of ordering the card and bag tag, so naturally I went for that. The text of the letters is identical, pointing out the eco-friendly materials and environmental credentials of the pack. The subtext here is, “Stop asking for these as it’s not friendly to the planet.”
Overall Thoughts
My generation straddles the end of Generation X and start of the Millennials. Apparently we’re special and are called Xennials, with our analogue childhood and digital young adulthood. That means I’m quite in the middle, liking both my old school physical along with the digital bits in a phone.
While I am not one to attach the cards to my luggage, having a physical frequent flyer card is something I like. Usually I keep it in my wallet, an item I never use day to day anymore but do bring along on a trip so I have my actual credit and debit cards as a backup. See what I mean? Xennial.
What do you think of Aegean’s cards? Are you someone who orders the cards when available or are you digital only? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
