13.1 miles. Down the Vegas Strip. At night! … All kicked off with a concert by Snoop Dogg at the starting line!

People run for all kinds of reasons. I do it for fun and fitness, and it doesn’t get much more fun than Las Vegas! Besides New Year’s Eve, this is the only other time the Vegas Strip is completely closed down, for some 40,000 runners rather than thousands of party-goers spilling into the street.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon & Half Marathon benefit the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America. Previously held in early December, they moved it to mid-November last year and again this year, November 14 – 16. With a setting in Las Vegas and multiple running options (sorry, the “half of the half” is sold out), it makes for a great weekend from music, parties, and running for all abilities.

I’ve ran this race several times (just the half) and I keep it on my annual race list for a reason. In 2013, a course change was made for the better, ending the race more mid-Strip. Yes, it gets cold! The race starts right around sundown and it gets dark out very fast, but the Vegas lights keep you pumped up!
