Background
I had the opportunity to fly the Delta Airlines A220 on a business trip. I was excited about this because I like the 2-3 configuration on the A220, and have had good experiences on Air France. I’ve never been on this particular aircraft type on Delta, so I was excited to try it. Normally, Delta seems to be priced higher than United or American, but they were matching the price on this route and time, so I decided to book them as I was hoping I would get to see the Sky Club at Chicago O’Hare (ORD). That Sky Club looks amazing, and they even have a gate (M11) that you can board directly from the Sky Club. Sadly, I didn’t get a chance to visit the Sky Club at ORD this time as my flight arrived slightly past 8 pm, and it was closed.

Upgrade List
For those curious about upgrade statistics on this Monday evening flight, 34 people remained on the First Class upgrade list when I got on the plane and checked the app. And, 20 people were remaining on the Comfort Plus upgrade list. I have no Delta status, so I was not expecting an upgrade at all but it is always interesting to see. Considering that there were only 82 Main Cabin and 15 Comfort Plus Seats, it seemed that over 30% of the plane was elite.
The flight was booked full as I checked earlier in the day, and there were zero seats for sale. Before we left the gate, the Delta app was showing 3 seats remaining on the standby list.
Boarding & At the Airport
Delta leaves from Terminal C at New York- LaGuardia, and it’s a great terminal as it is modern and spacious. TSA Precheck took about 5 minutes, then it was off to the SkyClub. I’ve visited the LGA SkyClub numerous times before and it’s one of the best in the network. Tip: the hot food offerings were a little under par on this trip, but the smaller buffet area next to the customer service desks had a Gyro station which was great.
Boarding was scheduled 40 minutes before the scheduled departure, though right before the flight I saw that it was pushed up 5 minutes on the app to 45 minutes before.
Aircraft & Seat Selection
The Delta A220-100 features 12 First Class seats in a 2-2 configuration, 15 Comfort Plus seats & 82 Main Cabin seats in a 2-3 configuration for a total of 109 seats.
This was a business trip, and I was able to select a preferred seat due to booking through the travel portal at work. I wanted to sit on the “2” side of the aircraft and chose an aisle seat near the wings of the aircraft.
According to aeroLOPA, the seat pitch for the Main Cabin is 32″ (AB seats plus 13/14CDE) and 31″ (16CDE to 29CDE). So there’s more pitch on the AB (2) side than the CDE (3) side. Every extra inch helps- no wonder the seat felt spacious!
The Flight
Upon entering the 5-year-old aircraft, it instantly felt fresh still, with modern seats and seat back screens. I found my seat to be comfortable, and the legroom to be quite roomy for the Main Cabin. The 32″ of pitch was apparent. The overhead bins seemed pretty spacious and fit my carry-on easily.
The pilot announced that wheels up to wheels down would be 2 hours and 5 minutes. The boarding doors closed about 15 minutes before our scheduled departure, and we pushed back from the gate about 5 minutes early.
We had a decent taxi time and took off about 30 minutes after we left the gate.
After reaching cruising altitude, a beverage and snack service was provided. The flight attendant was a bit sassy but offered chips, a chocolate granola bar, a snack mix, or cookies.
In-Flight Entertainment
The seatback IFE screen was pretty big and crisp at 10.1 inches. You could watch plenty of movies, listen to music, or play games. I ended up watching Twister, and then by the time it finished we were getting ready to land. The “Series” & “Audio x Spotify” functions seemed to be broken and were showing a blank screen.
The major plus was that Wi-Fi was complimentary for SkyMiles members which was nice. It also worked pretty well! My flight back on American sadly did not have free Wi-Fi.
USB-A sockets were available on the IFE screen, and there was a universal AC power socket in between the seats in front of me.
We touched down 14 minutes before our scheduled arrival. But, I guess from where we landed to our gate was a long distance and we mazed around for 20 minutes before getting to our gate. Sad! I wanted to check out the Delta Sky Club but they close relatively early at 8 pm. So we parked at the gate about 10 minutes late, a bit past 8 pm.
I passed by the Sky Club to see if they stayed open due to other flights being delayed possibly, but the doors were shut and info desks were empty. Sad. Next time hopefully I’ll get to see the ORD Sky Club.
The Verdict
Overall, I had a solid experience with the Delta Airlines A220. I really like this aircraft, the seatback IFE, and the free Wi-Fi are all major pluses. I will definitely try to fly on more A220s in the future.
