BACKGROUND:
I was searching for places to stay on my trip to Colorado Springs for a mini convention. In June, I stayed at the Hyatt House, which I reviewed here! The Hyatt House was a great Category 1 redemption, but I wanted to try something new. From my room at the Hyatt House, I could see the Marriott, so for this trip I chose to try out the Marriott as it had a really good rate. A Junior Suite with Concierge Lounge access was only $120 a night. Sounds too good to be true? You betcha. I’ll dig in to the deets later in the review. 🙂

Pre-Arrival:
After I book a hotel, I still scout for new reviews on Yelp or TripAdvisor. Before arrival, I saw a new review that noted that the Concierge Lounge wasn’t open on the weekend. But that was the whole reason I booked the “Junior Suite”, as it came with access to the Concierge Lounge and my stay was on a Saturday!
I called, and turns out the website is “wrong”. SO TIP: The Concierge Lounge is ONLY open on WEEKDAYS at the Colorado Springs Marriott. They offered me breakfast vouchers instead. Well okay, fine (You’ll understand why I added sass in a few paragraphs).
Check-In:
My friends and I arrived quite late, and the hotel was pretty empty at midnight. The parking lot was FILLED but luckily we got a spot!
Check-in was quick, but I realized I had no breakfast vouchers with my room keys! So I asked and explained what I was told on the phone when I called, and then the front desk agent said “Okay, I’ll give them to you this time. :)” Why thank you, after an agent promised me them on the phone weeks ago….?”
The Room:
Lemme just tell you that the “Junior Suite” is a fancy term for “Corner Room that has a sofa which kinda blocks the bathroom door”. TripAdvisor reviews will confirm my description as well. I knew this at booking but the reason I didn’t care at the time was because this “Junior Suite” was the SAME price as the “Standard Room with Executive Lounge Access”.
In short, the Junior Suite still is nicer than a standard room, just don’t expect a suite.
The numerous windows were very nice, and the room was decently clean (Minus a piece of gum stuck on one of the sofa cushions). My friend who ended up on the sofabed appreciated how it was an actual mattress rather than those sofabeds that are just like a thin layer of springs.
The king sized bed was your standard comfortable Marriott bed. The bathroom was adequately sized and the shower pressure was nice. Good counter space. Just the minor issue of the room is that the bathroom door is right in front of the sofabed so if someone is sleeping on the sofabed, they get a beautiful view of the bathroom and if they are lucky, the bathroom door can gracefully bump the sofabed. 🙂
Breakfast:
In the morning, it took awhile to get seated for the breakfast buffet. It wasn’t because there were no seats, but rather due to the lack of service staff to clean up all the dirty tables.
The buffet was fine minus the rude lady at the omelet station. A coworker who also stayed at the hotel told me that omelet lady was rude to him as well.
Overall, a decent buffet spread, with a serving of sass from the omelet lady.
Late Checkout Request:
Well I requested late checkout, and got an extra 30 minutes, Wooooo! Gotta love the “Priority Late Checkout” from Marriott Silver status… At least SPG Preferred Plus guarantees you 4PM Late Check Out…
The Verdict:
Overall, the Colorado Springs Marriott is a solid choice to consider in the area. Just be aware that despite what the website says, the club lounge isn’t open on the weekends 🙂 For the right price I’d give the hotel another shot if my travels bring me to the area. Probably won’t book a “Junior Suite” again and I would hope to have better service.
Happy travels,
