The other day I saw something in the news saying the Dublin Express bus service to Dublin Airport was back in operation. Considering I had never heard of this service, I certainly sat up and took notice.

This was hard on the heels of Dublin Bus announcing they have permanently cancelled the long standing 747 and 757 services. It’s all happening in the world of bus transport to and from Dublin Airport!

New Bus Service With Dublin Express

Unfortunately for Dublin Express, they started operating on 3 March 2020, right before the pandemic lockdowns hit, which would probably be why I hadn’t heard of it. This also explains why the news were saying they were back.

Anyway, the bus services stop all along the quays, which run parallel beside the Liffey River. It comes into the city on the south side, stops at Heuston Station and then goes out of the city along the north side.

At the moment they are running every 30 minutes, which is decent enough. Happily the fares are very competitive, with prices at €6.00 one way or €8.00 return. This is cheaper than both the AirCoach and the now defunct 747/757 services.

Since they operate proper coaches, it promises a very comfortable journey. The company is part of the UK’s National Express, so they have form in running a decent operation.

Overall Thoughts

Great to see Dublin City Centre properly served by this new bus service to and from the airport. At the prices they are charging, it should do well.

I will be curious to see if AirCoach decide to do anything with their ticket pricing, which is quite a bit higher. Anyway, if you want to book a Dublin Express ticket, you can do it on their website here.
