Malaysia Airlines is going to send their Airbus A380 to Sydney during 2018. This is quite interesting as the airline is supposed to be removing the aircraft from service and configuring them for Hajj charters.
It adds another another Airbus A380 service to Australia’s largest city. Sydney is already served by the Airbus A380 at Qantas, Singapore Airlines and Emirates to name but three.
Malaysia Airlines Sydney Schedule
According to the timetable, the service is only on certain dates throughout the year. These generally match some peak periods which means Malaysia Airlines believes they can fill the aircraft.
The flights are the MH122 and MH123, serving Kuala Lumpur and Sydney. The Airbus A380 flights will be on 31 March, 1 April, 13-15 April, 22-25 June, 30 June, 1-9 July and 16 July.
Get On Board
People with oneworld alliance frequent flyer cards should be able to redeem their miles for these flights. It could be your last chance to get on board a Malaysia Airlines A380 before it is withdrawn from service.
On board are 8 First Class seats, 66 Business Class seats and 420 Economy Class seats. If I had the opportunity, I’d be giving First Class a try, since this cabin only exists on the Airbus A380 at Malaysia Airlines.
Overall Thoughts
This is something different from Malaysia Airlines. Perhaps their plans for the Airbus A380 are shifting from the previous Hajj charter plan and now they are trying to deploy the aircraft on other routes where there is high demand at certain times of the year.
It appears to be a sound strategy to me and it will be good to see the aircraft somewhere apart from London which is the airlines only remaining regular A380 service. The future of that is yet to be written.
