I Got My Cancelled easyJet Flight Refund In A Month!

BACKGROUND ON EASYJET REFUND:

Back in January, I booked a July Trip to Europe. One of the legs was on easyJet from Rome to London Gatwick. As we all know, the COVID-19 situation got worse, and I pretty much knew by March that I wouldn’t be taking this trip even if things started improving. Given that, I wanted to wait for the flight to get cancelled by easyJet because if I proactively cancelled, I would only be eligible for a travel voucher.

I previously posted about my positive refund experience with Norwegian Airlines, where I received my money back in 12 days after submitting a refund request online. I thought it would be good to share my easyJet refund experience here as well.

My easyJet flight was cancelled on June 29th, two weeks before my scheduled departure and that same day I requested a refund. I was worried about how long it would take to receive the refund. But, luckily I got it yesterday back to my credit card (July 28th!). I think one month is very fair, and I was actually expecting my refund to take longer.

Disruption Help Hub:

Once I was notified my flight was cancelled, I went to the Covid-19 and Disruption Help Hub on the easyJet website. You answer a few questions and have to decline the voucher/upgrade offers.

An attempt to convince me to get a voucher.

The site states that for flight vouchers, to give you time to plan your next trip your voucher and an ‘extra from easyJet’ will be valid for a whole year. So up to Summer 2021 if you decide to choose this route.

Refund Timeframe:

Before submitting the refund request, the website states that:

Please rest assured that we are trying to get everyone’s refund requests processed as quickly as possible. However, our current average processing time means that many customers will likely have to wait for the duration of the summer, and with our backlog continuing to extend, we anticipate new requests taking much longer.

The Verdict:

Thankfully, I didn’t have to wait the duration of the summer for my easyJet refund. I think one month is a reasonable amount of time given the current situation.
