Hotel Review: Vdara Hotel & Spa, Las Vegas

HIGHLIGHTS: Vdara Hotel & Spa

This was my first time at Vdara and, for the most part, I was pleased. Thanks to my partnership with MGM I was able to explore their brand new Club Lounge (full review here) and enjoy that amenity. Additionally, thanks to the $20 trick at check-in I was upgraded to a one bedroom penthouse suite on the 47th floor. Unfortunate that I had some major room issues with leaks and moldy smells – but they swapped my rooms, and service after the fact was great! They also waived both resort fees as well (due to a room issue) – total cost was only $70/N for a Friday & Saturday thanks to my promotional rate.

My standard hotel reviews include a breakdown by the following topics. Feel free to skip to whichever section you find most interesting.

  • Highlights
  • Lobby
  • Room
  • Hotel Space / Ambiance
  • Food & Drink
  • Fitness (+Lounge!)
  • Miscellaneous

LOBBY & CHECK-IN

Lobby is the left of the two major entrances. I entered on the right, viewing a Starbucks, a bridge to Bellagio, and walked past the cafe, bar, and hotel elevators to reach the check-in. Mlife status members check in on the left side of the check in desks – avoid the line!

I did the $20 sandwich and laid it on thick – first time in Vdara, honeymoon, the works. The agent said that there must be something they could do, so after conferring with another staffer, they upgraded me to a 1 bedroom penthouse suite on the 47th floor! I was very pleased – off to a good start.

ROOM

47th floor, penthouse suite, one bedroom clocks in at 885 square feet – not bad! However, I noticed a wet spot in the floor carpet, right in front of the bathroom, as I was taking pictures! It led to a trail of wet carpet to the closet, which hit me with a blast of moldy smell when I opened it up. They sent up housekeeping and engineering and were flabbergasted at the issue, and offered to move rooms – down to the 38th floor. I lost 9 floors of equity! No other recompense was offered. They do have the cool ipad tablet which controls the room – I need one of those.

However, the staff service was great – helping me set up a pull out sofa and bringing extra towels and six bottles of water upon request! These were greatly appreciated. However, the pull out couch is one of the most uncomfortable “mattresses” I’ve had the displeasure of experiencing. Never again!

HOTEL SPACE / AMBIANCE

This is a non-smoking, non-casino hotel, sandwiched between the Cosmo & Bellagio & Aria – so a great base of operations for our casino hunting. Note the security at hotel elevators – be sure to have your key! You’ll run the gamut here – families, tourists, etc. Plenty of young 20/30 somethings looking for a nice suite to squeeze far more than the fire code allows, I’m sure.

FOOD & DRINK

Check out my review of the Vdara Lounge here! There we had plenty of food. There is no buffet or restaurant on this property, just a small Cafe & Starbucks.

FITNESS

Fitness center is located on the same floor as the Vdara Lounge and Spa. Unfortunately we did not partake as we trekked up and down the Strip.

MISCELLANEOUS

I was fortunate enough to luck out on a promo rate of $70 for a weekend night, and begged off the resort fees saving me ~$45 per night! Of course, I was expecting something like $150 in food credit for such a major room issue (like at the Aria) , but I’ll take waived resort fees. Room was great – and I wish we had leftovers that we could use with a refrigerator and kitchenette, but alas. I definitely will try to come back here especially if I am hosting guests or want to suite it up. I would highly suggest staying at the Vdara and experience the suite life!
