Background:

I needed a one-night stay in the Downtown LA area with friends. We were thinking about trying the Intercontinental Los Angeles, which is the tallest hotel west of Chicago. But, I found a rate the Sheraton Grand Los Angeles which was $100 less than the Intercontinental, so we opted to give it a try. I’ve visited the Sheraton Grand a few years back for a conference and thought the lobby looked really great, so I was excited to try it out.

The Sheraton Grand Los Angeles is a Category 6 property with Marriott Bonvoy. On the Marriott website, the Sheraton was going for $230 for my dates, but I used the Capital One Travel Website and found the Sheraton at $170 for the night. $60 in savings was definitely worth it to forgo points and not book directly with Marriott. With my Capital One Venture X Card, I got 10x points for the booking, and got to use the annual travel credit! I was pretty impressed at the discounts featured on the Capital One site, as the JW Marriott Los Angeles was also over $60 cheaper on the Capital One Travel Platform than the Marriott website. As expected, no Bonvoy elite night credits or points were earned during my stay.

Check-In:

We arrived at the hotel around 2pm, and I was quickly checked in by a friendly associate. I booked a basic view room, and he said he upgraded me to one with a city view which was appreciated! I asked if my Marriott Bonvoy Number could be attached to the reservation, and he gladly added it so I could follow my stay on the app. He acknowledged my Gold Status and proactively asked if I’d like 2pm late checkout which was nice.

I stayed at the Sheraton Grand in Seattle a few years back and enjoyed my stay there. That property also had a really nice lobby, although it was a bit bigger than the Sheraton Grand in Los Angeles. There are only 6 Sheraton’s with the “Grand” Distinction in North America. I generally don’t like the standard Sheraton brand, but the “Grand” ones seem to be quite good.

The Room:

Our room was located on the 21st floor, and had a pretty decent view of Los Angeles. LA skyline is not the most aesthetic, but it felt like we were up in the clouds!

The room was a good size, with 2 Queen sized beds; and a large chair near the window. The TV counter featured a desk area with a comfortable spinning chair.

There was a mini-fridge for personal use offered, as well as a Keurig machine. And, the room was recently refreshed technologically, with charging + USB ports next to the bedside table which was nice to have. In terms of cleanliness, the room seemed pretty clean, which was good in this day in age! Plus, the AC unit was very responsive.

Bathroom:

The bathroom was a good size and was a standard three-piece bathroom with large sink area, WC and tub/shower combo.

I was excited before my stay because I like the standard toiletries Sheraton’s generally offer which is called Le Grand Bain. But, this property moved to offer Gilchrest and Soames’ Warm Oak in the reusable bottles. Warm Oak was quite good as well, but I asked on the app if they still had Le Grand Bain, and they sent me up some shampoo and conditioner (yay!).

Amenities:

The top floor (26th) is where the Sheraton Club Lounge and Fitness Center are located. As of my February 2022 stay, the Club Lounge is still closed.

The fitness center was nice and offered great views of the LA skyline.

There’s a really nice outdoor space located on Floor 3 called the Deck. It transforms to a restaurant for dinner after 4pm, but in the morning it was a nice place to relax and drink some coffee.

Dining:

One floor below the lobby is where the District Restaurant is located. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a farm-to-table American cuisine.

In the lobby, the Hope Street Market is a grab and go that’s open 24 hours a day.

Service + Location:

The service was great, with my shampoo request being delivered very quickly, and the check-in agent being super friendly.

The hotel is located pretty much in the center of Downtown LA, and is about a half a mile/15 minute walk to the LA Live area where the Crypto.com area is. And, about a 20 minute walk to the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Downtown LA used to be a ghost town, but is definitely reviving!

There’s a good amount of stuff to do in the area, and directly outside the Sheraton is the Bloc which has shopping and dining. There’s a Macys, Nordstrom Local to name a few shops.

The Verdict:

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Sheraton Grand Los Angeles and will consider staying here in the future if I need a stay in Downtown Los Angeles. The updated rooms, central location and solid service all contributed to a good stay.
