Introduction

The Grand Hyatt Doha is a 249 room 5 star luxury hotel located on the shoreline of the new West Bay Lagoon District in Doha, Qatar.  Doha is a major international hub for airline transportation and staying at the Grand Hyatt Doha is perfect for a relaxing on a long stopover.  The tranquil surroundings, private beach, multiple pools, large bedrooms, and excellent food options make it hard to believe this is only a category 4 Hyatt hotel.

Booking

Surprisingly, this hotel is only a category 4 hotel, which means award redemption rates are 15,000 points or 7,500 points plus $100 USD.  For my booking, I used the annual free night certificate that I receive every year for being a Hyatt credit card holder.  At check-in they upgraded me even further to a suite at no extra charge, not a bad deal!

Check-In

Check-in staff was friendly and professional.   They acknowledged my globalist status and even upgraded me on a non-paid stay which I was not expecting.  In my experience, having Globalist/Diamond status goes a long way in the Middle East or Asia compared to Europe or the US where I seldom get upgraded at check-in. a flag on a building

Property

The property is beautiful with its own private beach, wonderful gardens, impressive views, and large dining facilities.  There are plenty of areas to stroll along or sit and relax by the pool.  Many of the rooms also had large terraces or balconies.  I’m always weary of staying at Grand Hyatt hotels because of the large crowds, but this hotel does a good job of offering plenty of areas for guests to spread out and relax.

Room

The room was absolutely huge and way over 1,000sq ft with plenty of furniture to have a small party.  Even more impressive was the size of the large private terrace with amazing ocean and city views.  The room felt more like an apartment than a hotel with its lovely carpeting and art.

Food

Since I was a Globalist member, I decided to have breakfast at the Club Lounge, which was the largest club lounge i’ve seen at a Grand Hyatt.  There was plenty of delicious food to choose from including Middle Eastern and European options.  Much better than the typical breakfast options at club lounges.

Service

The service was great at this hotel with staff always ready and willing to assist.   I was a fan of these call buttons were you can request a waiter or a bill to come over.  This is the only hotel i’ve seen this service offered and I think it is genius.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Grand Hyatt Doha is a great hotel to stay at on a long stopover or even a beach vacation. The award redemption rates are an excellent value considering how large the rooms are and how it beautiful the property is.  The next time I’m on Doha, I’ll surly be staying the this hotel again.
