HIGHLIGHTS: Four Points By Sheraton San Diego

Service here was exemplary, and it was a fun experience. The Four Points convenience near the popular areas of San Diego (close to Convoy, a short drive to La Jolla, etc.) made this stay pleasant. We enjoyed the comped parking (normally $12/N), although the quality of the hotel and room could use some work. We also saved on points (7,000 SPG per night) by using the Best Rate Guarantee to get the room for about $50/night!

LOBBY & CHECK-IN

This lobby is spacious, with toy soldiers standing at the front, and checkin to the right. We arrived on a Tuesday, where the hotel hosts a Manager’s Reception with free beer, wine, and appetizers available for guests. Unfortunately, no suites were available, but they did comp our parking for the three nights, saving us $12 per night! They did make a point of saying that breakfast was originally designed for one, and that we had to come back to get a fresh voucher each morning. A bit puzzling, since it’s usually for two, good until we check out.

ROOM

Room was pretty subpar, standard, and clean, yet desperately in need of remodel. The little breakfast nook was nice, with fridge and microwave – great for our leftover Chinese & pizza! I do want to note that this Four Points had adequate internet, as I don’t believe there were any issues.

HOTEL SPACE / AMBIANCE

Lots of families and adults around on the holiday. I enjoyed their piano in a late evening, getting some compliments from the other guests in the hotel. Lady Hotelion treasures the special moments on the piano, although I consider it nothing more than the Asian standard.

FOOD & DRINK

Breakfast buffet was decent, as it was a basic buffet but had a good selection of fruits – essential to my whole foods plant based diet. Note that when they close they will kick you out.

FITNESS

The gym was small, too small for a property of this size, past the pool. The gym was also quite stuffy and stank of sweat, as there was little to no air circulation. I propped the door open for some relief.

Miscellaneous

For such a reasonable rate, I would love to stay here again. While it could use some updating, it served its purpose with no issues, and I did appreciate the waiving of my parking fee. I sent a thank you certificate  to the associate who checked us in, but did not get a response. The Four Points by Sheraton San Diego is located near some amazing dining establishments, reasonably priced (especially coming from Los Angeles or the Bay Area).

  1. Minor but important point – 1st paragraph mentions free parking, but later you are comped for the parking…..that is not free parking imo if you are reviewing the hotel.
