Maybe the better question is, would you even walk on a glass walkway high up somewhere?
Do you have a fear of heights? Fortunately, I don’t, though I still occasionally get weak in the knees when I am standing at a high spot. Generally speaking, I avoid standing next to the edge of some peak or cliff. It’s not that I’m afraid of heights, but I have vertigo (likely due to inner ear problem related to ear pain) so I am at a higher risk of losing my balance that way.
That is not to say I haven’t done things like opting to pay more for a Glass Bottom cable car experience when I visited the Big Buddha at the Lantau Island, or climbing the Sydney Harbor Bridge when I visited Australia. They were fun experiences, and I didn’t find either to be scary at all.
Glass Walkway That Cracks
I came across a travel bite this week where a glass walkway in East Taihang, Handan City had a special effect added to the glass panel. The glass appears to crack under your weight, with the glass panel cracking visually paired with realistic audio.
I don’t know about you. If I had no advance notice that this is a special effect, I’d probably freak out a bit. It’s not for the faint of the heart. The glass walkway is way up high and seeing a cracked glass at that altitude is no laughing matter.
Yet, the reaction from the tour guide is quite funny and priceless…even if he might be in on the joke.
Still, I could see some people might be genuinely frightened by the special effect.
Especially when there were real news of cracks to the glass panels on glass walkways.
