The American Airlines Flagship lounges are the international standard lounges at the airline. I wrote an extensive review of the Flagship Lounge in New York last week and now it’s Chicago’s turn.
After the first class flight arriving from Washington DC, I headed to the lounge with the lady who had been sitting next to me. She was also connecting so I guested her in which she really appreciated.
Chicago Flagship Lounge Decor
You go up an elevator to the lounge and on arrival you are presented with the view at the top of this post. Turning left takes you to bar and buffet area.
- Chicago lounge entrance
- The bar area
- Seating for eating
- A water station
- Lamotte Champagne
- More seating
The space is divided up quite nicely into distinct areas. For example, you can sit at the window and watch the world go by or you relax and work in other seats. There are plenty of sockets to charge your devices.
- Sit and watch the world go by
- These seats also look outside
- Relax at the table
- Magazines and flight information screens
- Watch television in here
- Photographs on the corridor wall
- The small relaxation room
- Try not to fall asleep!
- I quite like the lamps
- Last one
Everything works together very well. The large windows overlooking the apron mean you can almost always see out, no matter where you are. That is a really nice feature.
Bathroom Style
As you would expect from a relatively new space, the bathrooms are modern, spacious and clean. The same products are used as in the other American Airlines lounges.
- A basin
- A trio of urinals
Once again I did not have a shower or spot the shower facilities, but they do exist. I’ll also mention here that the Wi-Fi is fast and free, as it should be.
Chicago Flagship Lounge Dining
This visit is my second one to the Chicago Flagship Lounge. When I arrived into the USA from Dublin, I also had a brief visit where I took pictures of the food around lunchtime which you can see here. Here is some of the spread around 7pm.
- A little Japanese
- It’s meat
- A selection of cheese
- Blackened beef, strawberry soup, caramelised balsamic chip
- Saki poached scallops
- Your choice of lollies
Food like this is right up my street, so I selected all the things I wanted to try. I like the fact you can get a little bit of everything in a convenient way such as the small glass bowls of food.
- My choices for the evening
Happily all the food was delicious. The ground food experience in the American Airlines Flagship lounges is extremely good. Quality of the food is pretty much faultless.
Overall Thoughts
Having visited two American Airlines Flagship lounges now, I find myself pleased with the whole experience. These lounges are of international standard which means they are what I am used to when I fly other oneworld airlines.
The food offering is contemporary and tasty and the staff keep the place very tidy which I also like. I’m looking forward to my next visit!

Nice of you to invite the neighbor. What are the criteria for entrance?
Yes, she was nice and she was going to the other lounge anyway, so I thought I’d ask.
