Review: Club Europe on British Airways from Dublin to Southampton

During the summer, British Airways CityFlyer aircraft based at London City Airport go on little vacations. Since the UK airport is closed for 24 hours between midday Saturday and midday Sunday, they are seen on some unusual routes. This year it is Dublin to Southampton.

I decided to visit some museums in the famous English port city and booked tickets for a trip. As usual, I couldn’t resist upgrading to Club Europe and so that is what I did.

Dublin Airport

On arrival I went straight through Fast-Track security and headed for the lounge. After a friendly greeting, I headed for the porridge and had some of that for first breakfast. Eventually it was time to head to the 200 gates for boarding.

Since the load was quite light, it was already Final Call when I got there. My boarding pass was scanned and I swept across the tarmac, up the stairs and onto the plane.

All seats on the aircraft are the same, however those at 2C and 2D feature a scandalous amount of leg room. They really are the best seats in the house.

Before we departed, the crew came by and offered each of the passengers in Club Europe a bottle of water. As there were only two of us, this took seconds. Within moments, we closed up, had the safety demonstration and took to the morning sky.

Breakfast Dublin to Southampton

The pilots advised we would have a tailwind and the flight time promised to be short. I ordered the full English breakfast, a Champagne and a green tea, which I always enjoy.

The Omelette was a little grey and not so pleasant, so I ate the rest of the breakfast and left most of that. The orange juice made for a Mimosa or two and soon enough it was time to land.

Overall Thoughts

The friendly cabin crew really provided a decent service and everything else was as expected. With such a fast flight you need to eat quickly and I am well used to doing that on these short sectors.

I would say that the breakfast was disappointing, but that often happens when an Omelette is involved. I just don’t find them that great and I also wouldn’t be much of a fan of baked beans. Oh well, it is what it is!
