Fantastic around the world business class fare out of Australia

Around the world tickets are wonderful things and are offered by the major alliances. You can get up to 20 flights on a single ticket at a rate which is far better than buying all the segments individually.

My first experience in business class was on a oneworld around the world ticket that cost A$10,000 back in 2005. Right now, there is an excellent oneworld alliance around the world fare currently available out of Australia.

The Around The World Fare

Finnair is the airline selling this fare, and the sale lasts through to 16 March 2019. You can start your trip out of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Cairns, Hobart, Darwin or Coolangatta.

The total stops permitted is five on the cheapest deal. Therefore you get two stops on the way, the place you want to go to, plus two stops on the return.

For the cheapest fare, you need to use the Helsinki to San Francisco flight in either direction. This runs between 15 May 2019 and 27 September 2019 on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Within those constraints, you will get the fare for A$5,170. That fare translates to US$3,666 or €3,252. I think that’s a pretty decent price for oneworld business class.

Overall Thoughts

I quite like around the world fares. They usually have 12 months validity, so you’re able to plan travel over that kind of period. Very handy if you have a year off and decide to wander the globe for a little while.

If you are not a member of a frequent flyer programme before purchasing one of these tickets, I’d strongly advise doing so. You will usually rise up the ranks quite quickly.

Have you used around the world tickets before? What do you think of this deal? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.

    1. You would need to contact a travel agent based in Australia in order to access this fare, as it is only sold out of Australia. You won’t be able to price it online. Virtually all around the world fares need a travel agent to book due to their complexity. Good luck!

  1. Hi ! Are there any cheap business class deals / around the world deals starting from Finland or Sweden ? I’m looking for a flight to Brisbane Australia. Thanks

    1. Hi Melissa! I am not aware of any deals out of that area of the world. However, usually Qatar Airways has very competitive fares from Stockholm to Australia via Doha, so you may want to see what they are doing around the dates you wish to travel. Anything around 21,000 SEK return is a great deal for flights to that area of the world. You might try Stockholm to Auckland, which may be that cheap from there, then buy a flight from Auckland to Brisbane separately. Good luck!

  2. Are there any reasonably pricex Oneworld Business Class round the world fares originating from Cape Town, South Africa? It is impossible to try and work out a route and fare for 2 or 3 continents with multiple stops on the Oneworld website, if trying to use multiple airlines in the alliance – all suggestions and comments welcome.
Thanks – Jerome Cape Town – South Africa

    1. Well, have a look at https://www.oneworld.com/world-travel – that’s the oneworld alliance’s landing page for their around the world fares. Three continents or 26,000 miles seems to be the minimum, depending on which product you select. It really depends on where you want to go, but those two will be the cheapest and fares will go up from there. This sale by Finnair is very good, however I have to say I don’t usually see around the world tickets on sale. It all depends on what you want to do. Contact a local travel agent and see what they suggest as a good price out of South Africa, that would be a good starting point, then you could build it as you like. Good luck!
