Here’s a quick roundup of some of the interesting travel news stories from the previous week. A Hyatt devaluation looms as American Express targets users with an amazing offer of 250,000 Membership Rewards points.
Miles to Memories: 250,000 Membership Rewards points on the Business Platinum Card offer
Miles to Memories flags this amazing offer on the Business Platinum card. While I’ve not been targeted for this one, it can be a wonderful offer if this shows up on your account. If you’re looking to get the card anyway, then there’s a current offer of 150,000 Membership Rewards point that’s publicly available. You can read a complete review of the Business Platinum card here.
Doctor of Credit: Hyatt 2025 Award Changes: 118 Increasing In Price, 33 Decreasing In Price
This seems like a massive devaluation for a couple of customer types. Firstly, those who frequently book category 1 hotels (I am one of them). Secondly, it hurts people who love redeeming free night certificates, the reason being the fact that Hyatt caps redemptions based on hotel category. Overall, I see these changes as negative.
Transfer points with up to a 50% bonus for a limited time!
At the moment, Amex, Chase and Citi are all offering limited time points transfer bonuses. I love flexible points currencies and these transfers can be a great way to replenish diminishing points balance or get closer to booking a trip that you were looking to book anyway.
The Bulkhead Seat: Hilton Adds Another 30 Small Luxury Hotels of The World™ (SLH) to Bring the Total Bookable to 418
Hilton keeps expanding its footprint with its acquisition of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. There are some amazing options globally and these additions only add to that.
Frequent Miler: What are Aeroplan points worth?
Frequent Miler shares some interesting data about the value of Aeroplan points. Its always great to see a bunch of data from redemptions to see the kind of numerical value people are deriving while redeeming their Aeroplan points. Personally, I value Aeroplan points well upwards of 1.5 cents per point. I’ve been able to string some high value redemptions in premium cabins over the years, thanks to my Aeroplan points.
However, bear in mind that these reasonable redemption values work great as a guideline and are not something set in stone. Each person’s travel patterns are different, so one if bound to see variations when actually redeems points to book award tickets.
