I just completed a 3-night stay at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park, located at 2660 Woodley Rd NW, and I thought I would share a few details with you. This is a beautiful property that I had visited a number of times for various meetings, but had never actually stayed at for a night’s sleep. There are over 195,000 square feet of meeting space in addition to the normal hotel spaces at this historic property. In a word, it’s “gynormous.”

Check in was a breeze, and within minutes after arriving, was on my way to room 7022, an Executive Suite as I was informed by the check in desk, in the Center Tower. My room was just off the elevator, but I was never bothered by that because, like the hotel itself, my room was gynormous! I am a Marriott Gold member, and not surprised that I got an upgrade, but I was a little surprised that I got this much of an upgrade. I was in a huge 2-room suite, with living area, wetbar, conference table, and bedroom, complete with its own sitting area. I snapped a few photos of the room.

The room was way more than I needed, but I loved the space. In contrast to the huge living and sleeping area, the bathroom and closet were both standard issue Marriott, and seemed downright small when compared to the rest of the room. Of course, being alone for the week, all were more than adequate. As a Gold Elite member, I received complimentary internet and concierge lounge access. I did not take pictures of the lounge, but it was pretty standard. The staff was nice, and the spread in the morning and the evening were decent enough. In comparison to the size of the hotel, I thought the lounge seemed a little smallish, but I never had to wait for a place to sit in the morning or evening, so it was perfectly fine…and a nice place to camp out for a few minutes in the morning and evening.

The neighborhood around the hotel, known as Woodley Park is a beautiful spot, full of stately homes, restaurants, cafes, and even the National Zoo. You won’t suffer for lack of things to do or places to eat nearby. While I only dined in one restaurant nearby (and one in the hotel), I can personally vouch for the Lebanese Taverna, Cafe Paradiso, and Tono Sushi, which are all situated nearby on Connecticut Ave. I don’t normally make a habit of dining in the hotel, but on Tuesday night, the weather in DC was so awful that I simply didn’t feel like venturing out. I was very surprised by the quality of food offered by Harry’s Pub, one of a few dining venues inside the hotel. Prices were reasonable by DC standards, service was good, and best of all, the food was excellent, an opinion which was shared by the 3 colleagues dining with me. Other observations around the hotel – the lobby and lobby lounge seemed to have been redone since I was last in the hotel a few years ago. The lobby lounge was large, and better yet, the bar and sitting areas away from the main bar were equipped with multiple power outlets. Love that! Made for a great spot for people watching and getting some work done in the evenings.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park. The hotel was built for business but great for anyone. I’d gladly stay again when in DC on business or pleasure.
