Takeoff To Travel’s 2023 Year-in-Review: Top 10 Posts

Top 10 Posts

Background:

Today I am going to highlight the top 10 posts that I’ve published throughout 2023. Overall, it has been quite the year for my travel journeys. It’s been the year that I’ve spent the most nights at a hotel in a single year, as well as having the most number of flights. Let’s see if I can break the records in 2024!

It looks like readers prefer airline posts by a pretty large margin, as you’ll see below. I love how content from all the US Big 3 Airlines made it somewhere on the list! Some travel highlights that I enjoyed that didn’t make the list below include staying in a hotel that was formerly a water tower in Germany, making good use of my AMEX Aspire certificate while adding the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam to my favorite hotel list, and completing my first guest of honor stay at the Park Hyatt Aviara.

Thanks for reading my blog posts, commenting, and sending emails. I truly appreciate it! And thanks for supporting TravelUpdate as a whole!

2023 Year-in-Review: Top 10 Posts

#1: Delta Downgraded Me From Paid Delta One to Main Cabin

Delta Downgraded Me From Paid Delta One to Main Cabin

The most popular post goes to the post highlighting my downgrade experience last Christmas, where Delta downgraded me from a paid Delta One ticket to the Main Cabin. It was poorly handled by Delta, to say the least.

#2: Review: Delta One’s A330-300 New York to Amsterdam

Review: Delta One’s A330-300 New York to Amsterdam

Keeping along with the Delta theme, I got an equipment swap from the new A330-900neo with Delta One Suites to the classic A330-300. While I was disappointed at first, I was glad I got to try the classic A330-300 for the first time for a review!

#3: Delta Removed Me From Delta One Suites and How I Fixed It

Delta Removed Me From Delta One Suites and How I Fixed It

Adding to the Delta drama, I had an award ticket that had an equipment swap from the new Delta One Suites product to an old Delta One product. It took more work than it should have to switch to the other flight of the day with the new product, but eventually, I got it fixed! Lesson learned: always check your booked flights for any changes so you have time to proactively fix them.

#4: Air Canada Business Class Review: No Wi-Fi on Brand New 737 MAX 8

Air Canada Business Class Review: No Wi-Fi on Brand New 737 MAX 8

I tried Air Canada for the first time and had a decent experience. It felt very similar to domestic first class in the US, but at least it comes with lounge access! But, it was odd that such a new plane didn’t have WiFi installed. As of the end of 2023, it looks like 3/40 of the 737 MAX 8’s have WiFi now!

#5: Review: American Airlines Flagship First Airbus A321 Transcon

Review: American Airlines Flagship First Airbus A321 Transcon

This aircraft and cabin was the one I flew the most on this year, having flown it 4 times. Flying in the Flagship First Class Cabin aboard American Airlines’ A321 Transcontinental is still one of the best ways to fly coast to coast. Access to the first-class lounge at JFK which no other transcontinental service currently provides is a definite plus.

#6: Review: Delta One Suites A330-900neo Los Angeles to New York

Review: Delta One Suites A330-900neo Los Angeles to New York

I got to try the new Delta One Suites aboard the Airbus A330-900neo for the first time and I found the hard product to be nice! I would then fly it again from Amsterdam back to New York a month later.

#7: Flight Review: Delta Comfort Plus Seat New York (JFK) to Los Angeles (LAX)

Flight Review: Delta Comfort Plus Seat New York (JFK) to Los Angeles (LAX)

As part of my Delta One downgrade journey, I ended up in a Comfort Plus seat that was sold as Main Cabin due to the aircraft having a Premium Select Cabin on this domestic leg. It was not a bad way to get from NY to LA but the competition is tough with all the other airlines serving this route putting their best birds on the route.

#8: Premium Transcon Review: United Boeing 757-200 in Economy

Premium Transcon Review: United Boeing 757-200 in Economy

This post highlighted my flight onboard the United 757-200 in Economy. I sat in the special “two-seaters” in Row 22 and I highly recommend these seats when traveling with just one companion, so you do not have to sit with a stranger as the rest of the plane is in a 3-3 configuration.

#9: Review: JetBlue “Even More Space” Seats A321 Classic (LAX-JFK)

Review: JetBlue “Even More Space” Seats A321 Classic (LAX-JFK)

The JetBlue Even More Space seats aboard the A321 Classic with Mint are quite good with the industry-leading legroom, solid snack selection with Pantry, and free Wi-Fi.

#10: Lounge Review: Delta Sky Club New York JFK

Lounge Review: Delta Sky Club New York JFK

Definitely not my favorite Sky Club, but it gets the job done and is great for a domestic lounge. That being said, I much prefer the LAX or LGA ones.

The Verdict:

Overall, I hope you enjoyed my top 10 posts for 2023! Here’s to a travel-filled 2024, and a Happy New Year to all!
