In a two pronged assault on frequent flyers, British Airways casually dropped a status extension on members of the Executive Club yesterday. For once, even *I* am included in the largesse.
The oneworld alliance airline slipped an e-mail into everyone’s inbox titled, “Something to make you smile”. Did it actually make me smile? Let’s see…
British Airways Status Extension
Since people have been pretty much unable to fly since March, many frequent flyers were wondering what would happen to their hard earned status. Other airlines around the globe extended benefits quite quickly, but BA went down a different path.
Anyone with an 8th April, 8th May or 8th June renewal date received a 30% reduction in the amount of tier points required to meet the various levels. Since I’m an 8th June person, I was included in that, however ultimately the flights I had booked were cancelled.
As an additional bonus, there is a 25% reduction on the tier points required to progress or maintain your level. All of this is very customer focused and it’s great to see the most loyal customers getting a few carrots.
Overall Thoughts
I daresay the reason this is only coming out now is they had to wait for the June dates to pass before making more adjustments to the system. Either way, this status extension is very welcome news indeed, and it did make me smile!
While it covers anyone who might fly less over the next period, personally I am itching to get back in the air. Shockingly, I have not taken a single flight in 2020. Great for the bank balance, but I do miss it.
What do you think of the British Airways status extension? Did you benefit from it a lot or just a little? Thanks for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
