INTRODUCTION

I checked out Leatherman and their multi-purpose tools to see if they’d be useful while travelling. I found myself needing to clip some guitar strings on my last trip and didn’t have the requisite pliers or scissors to do so easily, and thought about getting a multi-purpose tool to handle these emergencies that come up. Per the TSA – multi-purpose tools with knives of any length or scissors over four inches must be checked, while those with scissors less than four inches can be carried on board. Leatherman has more information on what was designed to be TSA appropriate, but notes that airlines may have their own restrictions. To be safe, I would just recommend checking it at all times.

Leatherman

Leatherman has a whole line of multi-purpose tools useful for travelling, camping, hiking, adventuring, outdooring, and more. Of course, I rarely do any of those except for travelling, but having one might come in handy for you in the future. One of their top rated items is the Wingman – at $60, it’s a bit pricey, but it’ll last a while, and the thought of having one engraved and passing it from generation to generation is quite nice. Or – having one at home, with its combination bottle opener / screwdriver / pliers means I don’t have to hunt for my toolbox. Note that the Wingman has a knife so it is NOT TSA approved to be on board, but it can be checked.

Another thing that caught my eye is the partnership Leatherman has with Klarna, similar to Afterpay, where you can pay 1/4th the purchase price every two weeks for a total of four payments, without any interest or fees. Alternative payment methods are always of interest to me.

There are plenty of resources if you are interested or want to know more – such as instructional videos, guides, and more.
